I have a question for everyone. My husband and I are planing a camping trip the end of Sepember with our son, Lincoln. This will be the babys first camping trip (outside the womb) what should I take with us for entertainment? What kind of activities can we do with a 9.5 mo old boy? We're worried that he'll become bored easily. And is there anything recommened about sleeping. I'm not worried about where but how to keep his schedule and routine. It seems that anytime we leave home (reguardless of keeping to a scheduled routine) it throws him off. I'd appricate any help and advice. Much Thanx.

What can I do next?

After camping with our niece for the first time when she was 6 mo. old, taking her to the BWC on a canoe trip- It was my experience with her that she was very entertained by just being outside. if you are willing to let him play in a little dirt:) We didn't have to bring very many toys, etc at all.
Sleeping I have less experience with, but maybe if you just try to add a few elements from your routine it will work out. Good luck!

My family and I just went camping this past weekend. My son is 2, and I also had a niece that is 9 months and a 7 month old nephew there too. We put down a huge tarp and some blankets on the ground so they could crawl around and play with their favorite toys. My sisters also brought their exer-saucers and walkers. I had my son stay in the play pen with us in the tent. My son was so pooped out by the time his bed time came around that he was usually out before I even brought him into the tent. Bring your child hiking, swimming, or just for strolls. Children liked to go places, so keep yourselves busy. Just have fun, even if it requires your child to get filthy and off routine. Good luck

Being out in nature is so amazing for children that as far as daytime goes, toys usually aren't needed. However if he stays up while it is getting dark, then it is difficult to keep kids still. I would recommend just a few of his favorite toys, but for the most part nature provides the rest. Sleeping is a whole other matter, I wish I had some advice in that area, but I don't. If you keep him busy enough during the day hopefully the fresh air will knock him out when his little head hits the pillow. Have fun and good luck.

We just took our 2 1/2 yr old boy and my 8 month( was 8 mnths when we went camping) old girl camping this summer. We had a tent and it was big enough to put the pack n play in. that helped a lot with naps and such. also we brought a walker. She could cruise around if she wanted to but mostly she sat there with toys. Just bring toys an exersaucer or walker and toys. lay a blanket down to play on and the stoller. We also Brought our high chair that connects to an adult chair. I strapped it on the lawn chair. Have a god time.

When I go camping with my kids and they are (and were) little, the pack and play fit in our tent. When it came to crawling time (which by your child's age sounds like he is at that stage) my friend had one of those gates that you can put in a huge circle. So we would use it as a huge playpen and put a sleeping bag underneath. Which worked really well this year since our camping site was a huge dirt ball. It was nice for my son to crawl around without getting filthy and putting everything in his mouth. But you might have a nice grassy area..but you never know. Don't get me wrong, my kids did still get quite dirty but it was nice to have one semi clean zone so you could cook, pick up, whatever. Oh and I brought board books mostly for toys. They clean up nice and have a lot to look at. Also a ball is a good thing to bring.
Good luck!

I took my daughter camping at that age and I brought a light fleece snowsuit for her to sleep in. I made her a little bed on the floor next to use out of blanket like a little nest, you could use a laundry basket or something too.

I brought the stroller which worked as a make shift highchair, somewhere to set her down in for a minute and worked great for all the walking we did.

Bring little toys, and whatever you would normally bring use at home to entertain him.

I'm sure just being outside and being able to crawl around and explore would be enough to keep him occupied for awhile.

I had no problems with my daughter everything went very smooth and easy.

As far as keeping a schedule just focus on naps and eating you'll be fine.

I don't know if you plan to camp in a camper or a tent and if you nurse or not. Those things really make a difference. For sleeping, I have a basket basinet we always used on the go (and still do sometimes). I usually have to put her to sleep before I put her in there but then its cozy and stuff. I nursed, so we went hiking and never had to bring anything but water for me. We would just stop every once in awhile for her to nurse and a diaper change when necessary. We ued the Snugli and then brought 2 diapers and a few wipes in a ziploc bag. They fit into the snugli. Then, I would tie her nuk onto the snugli so we wouldn't lose that. Also a riding toy for around the campsite was good. We also have one of those big indoor-outdoor rugs for her to crawl around on. Hope that helps.
