Hi
I had a baby boy 10months ago and I just started taking the birthcontrol Camilla last week(it's the pill you can take while breastfeeding) and coincidentally I have been dizzy/lightheaded since (around) the time I started taking it. Just wondering if anyone else had this sympton?

I'm also very tired this past two weeks which is another reason I could be feeling this way......thanks for your help in advance....

HI R.,

I'm on Camilla , no problem at all. It also has no hormones so it should be the least with side effects. Could be you are over tired or maybe low sugar? I say call your doc, Monday and run down your symptons to her. Good Luck, A. B

I also went on this pill after having my son, but I don't recall any side effects...I still had no period and nursing was not affected at all...I will warn you though, if you don't want to have another child just yet, be extra vigilant about taking the pill at the same time every day, and not missing any...I went on the pill as soon as the dr would let me post baby (not sure exactly when that was, maybe 3 months or so) and nursed my son about 14 months...what I didn't know was that I got pregnant right before my son's 1st birthday (which was Oct.1st last yr). In fact, when I went for a visit to the OB on Oct.8th, I was still nursing but only twice a day or so, and she suggested that I consider going on a stronger pill once I was done entirely with nursing. I liked the "mini-pill" cuz it was lower hormone and was also afraid of the pain of drying up, so I figured gradual weaning was okay. Ironically enough, I was pregnant at that visit but we had no idea. Anyway I'm not upset that I'm having another (due June 17th!), it was just a shock to find out at nearly 15 wks (I found out the week of Xmas). I was hoping to try this coming fall for our 2nd, but I guess he was meant to come earlier:) At first I was in shock and a bit upset that I wasn't able to "control" or plan this pregnancy like I did with my first. Now I'm glad it happened cuz my kids will be closer in age and I'll get my body back for good SOONER. It was just a bummer to think I had it back finally only to find out that I wasn't having a period and fighting a cold for 2 months but that I was having some minor placenta previa and was pregnant (that explained the reason why I suddenly couldn't stand mint toothpaste, or anything mint, for that matter! Seriously, this is how I figured out that something weird was going on.) So, I guess my only side effect was getting knocked up again, lol!

Unless it was life or death...I would not ingest any medication while breastfeeding whether they say it is safe or not. Whatever you eat...becomes part of what you are feeding. Camilla has progestin which is a synthetic hormone. The reason they suggest it to women who are breastfeeding is it doesn't reduce the amount of breast milk production as a regular birth control bill will. Today they say it is safe. Who knows what they will say five years from now. Then it will be too late. I would say you have two healthy choices, stop breastfeeding or try an alternative birth control. K.

Hi R.,

I take it as well - since my son was 6 weeks old I think. He's 21 months now. I used to feel a weird cramping almost on my left side but I had the same feeling for part of my pregnancy so not sure if it's related or not. I also got my cycle on it even though I was still nursing. I used the actual brand Micronor with my first two (vs. Camilla is its generic) and I never had trouble with it and I didn't get my cycles until I finished nursing - 13 1/2 months with the first and 22 months with the second. This little guy (at 21 months) is still nursing as well but I get cycles and just started with breakthrough bleeding. Suddenly I don't know when I'm getting my cycle. The doctor also said it could cause mood swings. From what I understand though, these are possibilities with any type of pill like this that is ok for use while nursing. Personally I am NOT comfortable going on a regular pill while my guy is still nursing.
