Hi! I was wondering if any of you have a hard drive camcorder and if so how you like it. I have a dvd camcorder but it just seems like it doesnt hold enough and you have to swich out dvds all the time and the battery kinda stinks and editing isnt made easy. I went to best buy but no one there knew anymore then what it said on the boxes and there are mixed reviews online. so if anyone out there can shed somelight with personal experiance that would be great!

What can I do next?

We have the Sony 30GB touch screen camcorder and love it! It is small enough that I can carry it in my purse and it has terrific resolution and sound. It does not need a flash, it has an infared (sp) light so that the images are in black and white, kinda like the Blairwitch project. It makes filming baby in the crib easy, because you aren't flashing a light in his face while he is asleep, but the images are not in color. You can flip the screen for easy filming and viewing. It is easy to hold and can also take still photos. I love it! It was a Christmas gift from Grandma, and she bought the one that my husband had been checking out! Perfect! I would highly recommend this one! I think that she got it at Kit's Cameras at the Tacoma Mall, but you can shop around! Best wishes! B.

Hi, we have a Sony HD Handycam. We love it. We use Adobe Premiere to make videos and send them to out of state relatives. It is easy to organize the videos on the computer and nice to not have to mess with tapes and dvd's. We did get the little light attachment for it which is great for filming at night and when we go to daddy's all ages concerts. Also, our digital camera has been in the shop for a month now and the camcorder takes good photos too, which has been handy. Good luck..

I had a hard drive camcorder! I bought it right when they came out & spent lots of money on it! I had about 4 hours recorded on it & had a heck of a time getting the stuff off the camcorder onto a computer so I could make a DVD. The program it came with SUCKED & I never got my videos onto a DVD. It was such a hastle! And the battery didn't work that well...it was supposed to record like 4-9 hours, yah, that was a joke! I ended up selling it on Ebay for about 1/4 of the price I paid for it just so I could get rid of it!!! And next time I'm going to buy a DVD camcorder!!!
P.S. It was the JVC 30 GB camcorder.

DVD REcorders do stink. But the Harddrive ones can be just as troublesome. I'm a professional filmmaker, and I will ALWAYS recommend Mini-DV. The tapes are in-expensive run for 60-90 mins depending on the speed, and are versatile in all Mini DV camera's and they don't record propriary codecs like the DVD recorders and Harddrive models (This will cause you grief down the road)

Good brands to look into Canon and Sony.
