I flew with an 8 month old b/f baby. It SUCKED! Hylands are completely fine, but I diagree with benedryl or anything. No need to medicate my kid just to keep some angry adult happy. JMO.

Hylands Calms Forte for Kids. Can't find the "for Kids" in all the stores but it does exist. I have used the regular Calms Forte (adult?) for my kids and they were older (5 or 6) but I usually start out with 1/2 tablet and wait about 10-15 minutes before I give any more. Guess I do the same with the kids formula but I usually start with 1 tablet and go from there. I have used on the airplane. We usually fly very early or very late so kids are all wound down to begin with...I would suggest a trip to the park before the trip, to run around. If you are leaving early, put him to bed early and try waking him up when you get up, don't let him "sleep in." If you are leaving late, try and have a fairly active day (not too much or you will just have a grumpy 1 year old). If he takes a nap let him nap but maybe shorten it just a bit. If not try and have some "quiet time" a several hours before the flight. Then start with the activity again to wear him out. My kids are usually asleep (without Hylands) before the wheels even go up. And my boys are very much "active" 6 & 7 year olds. Bring some new toys, and try not to worry about it too much. If you are calm chances are your little one will be also. One other little tip that has worked well for us...start using some saline spray in his nose a couple times a day for a few days before the trip. If his nose is stuffy at all the pressure will be awful for him. A nice chewy toy (teething toys, etc) is great too.

Calm tablets? I think it's usually the parents that could benefit from those.
I used different Hyland's products for my children but never heard of calming tablets. I have no idea what they have in them.
A very active 1 year old is a blessing and sometimes it's hard when travelling not to let them get over tired or over stimulated. However, not knowing what's in the tablets, I can't advise using them.
I hope you get some great responses. I'm interested to hear what other moms say.

Best wishes and stay as calm as possible yourself. Kids can pick up on stress. Have a wonderful time!

It is called "Hyland's Calms Forte- for kids." And it can be used in young children I believe... but check the box.

It is Homeopathic... SO... because of that, it will work for some and not for others. You just have to try it.
Remember, it is not a sedative type thing... just a de-stressor and relaxer. NOT a tranquilizer. Just a natural... calming... thing. Just like a glass of milk for some.
I know, because I take the Adult version of it, for PMS and stress. It helps me.

Or, there is the kids vitamin brand called "Animal Parade- Warm Milk." This also, serves to help children relax or before bed.

The thing is... a 1 year old boy... IS active. Boys are very physical. Are you afraid of what others will say about him?
Is this for the Airplane ride?? or for when you reach your destination for the Holidays???

My friends, have used it for their kids on the airplane when traveling and said it helped. BUT... remember it does not sedate that child... just calms them. Maybe. Because it is homeopathic... and will work for some but not for others.

all the best,
Susan

I have had adverse side effects with homeopathic medications that required ER visits. The teething tablets caused her to not sleep for a couple of days and to be very hyper. The ER doc said that homeopathic stuff is iffy at best. It is very easy to use it incorrectly and even when you use it sparingly, like I did, it can still build up in their systems and cause serious issues.

Talk to your airline about the issue. I do not fly so I can't say first hand but surely other people fly with their children and they have had crying children on the planes before.

My friend who was a world traveler with her babies would split the trip up and have planned layovers every few hours just to break up the monotony so they could get out and talk a walk or let the kids run around somewhere at an airport. But then she loved to take off and land and it was the best part of the trip for her.

Maybe get on the plane late at night so the baby will sleep the entire way.

You drugging your child to make life easier just doesn't sound right to me, people have to be understanding when a little one cries. I think any parent would understand and try to helpful in this situation.
