I have three kids and just found out I'm preggers with my 4th! This is the first time my husband has no clue! Yay! I want to surprise him with the announcement in a really great way, does anyone have any suggestions!! I know some of you have had great success in this regard, so bring it on!
N. (Very happy 4th time mommy)
PS I'm not going to tell anyone else for a while so this surprise should just include him.

So What Happened?

Thanks for the suggestions, I get to tell what happened already, because my husband returned home from a biz trip and I can't keep a secret! I took a picture of my three kids in a row and a baby doll next to my youngest. Then one with each kid holding a sign saying "I'm a big sister/brother" and my baby with a sign that said "Me TOO!" I took a picture of me holding up 4 fingers. I took another with a bun in the oven. I printed out all theses pics and put them around the house. My plan was to not say anything and let him be observant. In th car from the airport, my greatly observant husband went through my purse, and saw my reciept that had the test on it!! He asked, "What is 'First Response'?" I was so mad! He is way to good at being aware. I tried to play it off as, "well we'll need it next month when we start trying for a baby." It didn't work, I come to find out that he has suspected it for a couple of weeks! It's a great thing to have an observant husband, most of the time ;)

We have 6 boys so when I found out we were having a little girl this last time I bought a little onesie that had a butterfly on it and said "Daddy's little princess". He almost cried. You could do something like buy baby booties or a onesie that says something on it. Make a cake decorated with baby stuff. I think it is great that you are trying to have some fun with it. Good luck!!!

What if you got someone to babysit the other children and made him a special dinner for just the two of you. You could make the dinner a theme of foods that give the hints of baby (I am taking that from the TV show Full House, where she had baby carrots, baby shrimp ect). Then maybe give him a present like a shirt or hat that has #1 dad or something on it, or has the pictures of the other children on it and a blank space for #4's picture. I am a little envious of you at this point because with most of our 6 children my husband seemed to know even before me that we were expecting. Good luck and I hope you get some other suggestions.

If your husband is a beer/wine/alcohol/water drinking kind of a man and asks you to get him a drink, deliver it to him in a baby bottle.

When I got pregnant, I took FIVE pregnancy tests just to be sure. When my hubby (now ex hubby)came home I put it on a paper plate and when dinner was ready gave it to him.
Another cute thing is to get a shirt for your youngest, saying "I am a big sister/brother"...and make sure your hubby is around and see how long it takes him to figure out that if your youngest is going to be a big brother or sister you must be pregnant! CONGRATS!

My favorite way was on a movie I saw and the woman put a card on the new daddy's mail table and then when he went into the kitched she had a baby doll put in a high chair and said, we'd better get used to the table change. It as cute and fun.
I'd definately like the card announcing the new one.

When I surprised my husband with the news of our second child, I had gone to the craft store and picked up a plain t-shirt for our son and pink and blue fabric paint, then wrote "Big Brother March 2005" on it. Then when my husband came home, I had our son go meet him at the door wearing the shirt and holding my positive test. He was completely shocked.

Hi N.. I have a couple of ideas. The first one involves sending a giant clear ballon with small baby items inside of it with your pg test hanging down inside and have it delivered to his work with a note that says "SURPRISE!!"
The 2nd one is typing a note and mailing it to him and be there with the camara when he opens it up to reads it.
Congratulations and let us know what you decide to do.

You could make a dinner for just the two of you. Serve food with a baby theme. Baby shrimp, baby back ribs, baby corn etc. Have flowers and comment how they smell as sweet as a baby. Wear something that is soft and tell him it's as soft as a baby. Play the sound track from 9 1/2 months, beautiful songs. He will get it. Congratulations to both of you.

There was a question a while ago about how to break the news to family members, but I think this would work for your hubby. A bouquet of balloons - pink for each girl you have, blue for boys and a white one for baby to be. Write their birthdays on the balloon and the expected due date on the white one (I know you probably haven't been to the Dr yet, but based on your last menstrual period you should be able to come up with an estimate.) That is so exciting. Congrats. I'll be excited to read how it goes - whatever you decide to do.

Congradulations! I would try an either sex baby outfit with a note that says thanks for being such a great father to four beautiful children. I got a bib that says I LOVE MY DADDY
