Hi ladies, I am in need of a cake for a bridal shower in a week. I live in NW Harris county, so would like it to be in that area. Maybe some of you moms out there know of a good baker/decorator, and could share their information.
Thanks for your help on this!

I would recommend the Yellow Rose Bakery in Copperfield. I just used them for a cake for my daughter's birthday. It was delicious. Everyone thought I had paid extra for fondant icing, but it was actually buttercream. They put the buttercream on so smoothly it looks exactly like fondant. Their prices were very reasonable as well.

The following are recommendations (w/comments) our subdivision put together when a similar request went out. I really like RJ also but they are on Stuebner which can be a hassle. We also like the Italian cream at HEB on Barker Cyppress & 290 when we need large nice & not expensive fast.

Also for anyone looking for a pie - Flying Saucer Pie company on Crosstimbers near Shepherd is fantastic. See their website - closed on Sunday & Monday. I haven't ever been there without a line. (Thursday during lunch or after work. It is amazing.

Bakery/Bakers in the area (and the comments about them)
1) Megan Kamrath. – beautiful cakes and cookies, very sweet young lady – also caters

I just ordered a cake with chocolate covered strawberries on top yesterday.” Hwy 6 N and Cherry Park/Longenbaugh (Behind Burger King)
3) The Bake Shop at Grant and Louetta (two recommendations) – Delicious cakes – someone at my church also uses them and says the cakes are great!

R.J. Goodies on Stuebner just north of Louetta. They come highly recommended by myself and people I know. The lady's name is Lauri Savantez.

I usually use RJ Goodies or ABC Bakery (as mentioned by others) but have heard good things about, of all places, Kroger. Several people have gotten theirs there and they were good. Have had a couple from Sam's (the discount place at 249 and 1960) that were really good.

I totally recommend Cakes by Lindy. Her bakery is located on Riley Fuzzell Road, just south of Fox Run in Spring. And yes, Sam's has pretty good tasting cakes, but may not be the best with decorations. If you are willing to go to ABC Bakery (Aldine, or Champions), they are truly the best with both taste and decorations. They can re-create any design you take them, and make it better!!!

Sam's Club makes wonderful cakes - very moist. You can choose either whipped cream or buttercream icing as well.

Omg S.,

I had a birthday party for my son and one his classmates mom's works at Alma's Cakes. It is a family-owned bakery and she is the daughter. She offered to just "make a cake" in addition to bringing a present since they owned a bakery. I told her the cake could be the present. They made a great Diego cake and it was DELICIOUS cake! Then my next son turned 12 and I took her a picture of a college team logo that my son loves. The logo was too large for them to use it to trace it onto the cake, so they did it free-hand. I couldn't believe how great it turned out, especially that they used whipped icing. I saw them building a wedding cake while I was there picking up my cake and boy can they make beautiful creations! Check out Alma's Cakes at www.almascakes.com or call them at ###-###-####. They are on Fallbrook just off 249.

Good luck!

Hi S.,

Anytime someone mentions needing a cake I have to refer them to Fiesta. They did my wedding cake (very small wedding but still wanted a nice cake.) They did a 2 tier cake for 22 bucks! I couldn't believe it. Granted that was almost 8 years ago but I was overwhelmed with how nice the cake was. The one I went to was on Shepherd and 610. They really took the time and I was so impressed. Hope this helps and it may save you $$$ :)

I'm a big fan of RJ Goodies. I've had them do all my girls birthday cakes and baptism cakes. Their cakes are delicious. They've moved from Veteran's Memorial to Stuebner Airline just north of Louetta. Another option is the Bake Shoppe on Grant at Malcomson Rd. Their cakes are delicious but they don't do special decorations like RJ's. Good luck!

Hi S.,

ABC Bakery does wonderful cakes, they have several on displays that you can see and taste and a book of designs they have done in the past that are fresh and interesting. They are located on FM 1960 in the Randallas Center near Champions Forest Drive. They also have a location in Aldine.

RJ Goodies has the best icing I have ever tasted. They are located on Veteran's Memorial north of FM 1960.

Good luck!
