I am most likely going to have a C-Section at Woodwinds due to my baby being footling breech. I am scheduled for a version but may cancel it - I am too nervous. Has anyone had a C-Section at a Healtheast hospital? I am wondering what their policies are... how many people can be with you during the surgery? Can the baby stay with me in the recovery room? About how long is the hospital stay? I just wish the baby would turn head down!
Thanks!!

What can I do next?

My sister-in-law delivered naturally at Woodwinds and had a good experience. Also, although I didn't have my kids in the Healtheast system, my 2nd son was breech. I could've opted to have a version or try things naturally, but when I did some research on having a version done, I found out that most are only successful if you still have alot of amniotic fluid, so check that. In my case, I did not have much fluid left, and there are alot of risks and alot of pain involved with trying a version. I would've been okay with the pain, but version can be stressful to the baby and there are alot of risks, so for me personally, I chose not to opt for the verstion and to go with what was easiest on the baby--a c-section, where I felt the baby was least stressed and least at risk for complications. I did have a vaginal delivery with my 1st child, so I did miss out on that with the 2nd, but for me, the best choice and safest choice for my 2nd child was the c-section.

Don't know much about c-sections, but many of my friends has regular births at Woodwinds. I've only heard rave reviews!! I also had an ultrasound there and I've NEVER felt so pampered before. Not like any other hospital I've ever visited.

Not sure that the policies would be radically different from one hospital to another. I had c-births at Fairview University and one at United.

I only had my husband in the OR but had several family members crowded around me in recovery and they trotted right behind me once I got wheeled to me room.

Both my babies were healthy at birth but did not come with me to recovery...I made sure my husband followed them. He was there to give them their first baths, comb the goo out of their teeny baby hairs, put them into their first diapers.

It is all a bit of a blur = ) but I do know that both were brought to me ASAP in recovery so I could nurse (the grandfathers were all in a dither about it and quickly found somewhere else to be). Then they were taken back to the nursery for another quick check and were brought right back once I was transferred to me room.

I haven't had c-section at woodwinds but had one at St Johns Medical in Maplewood which is also a healtheast hospital. I did tour woodwinds and St Johns but chose St Johns because of all the reviews I heard and also because they have a NICU. My dr told me she would prefer a hospital with NICU for a C-sec and it made perfect sense to me. Also all the nurses were really nice and experianced there. During C-sec I could have my husband with me and baby stayed with me in the recovery room most of the time because I wanted her there. It was good to have the option to have her in the nursery too when I wanted to rest. Hospital stay for C-sec is usually 3 days.
Woodwinds facility is very new and beautiful,at the time I toured they didn't have a nursery there and so baby had to room in with mom always. They have renovated now and have better facilities. You may want to take a tour..I saw an article in woodbury magazine about woodwinds and seems interesting

Congratulations and hope your baby decides to turn .

Can I just say I had the worst experience at Woodwinds but a good experience at St. John's, good food, good monitoring, fairly quick service and spent lots of time educating me and helping me with breastfeeding. Sometimes I felt they could have swung in a bit more to check up but overall I highly recommend St. John's over Woodwinds.
Woodwinds issues
1. They put the blood pressure cuff on and it tightened up on my arm and wouldn't release and all along the guys responsible were chatting it up! I had to ask if it should release before they caught it
2. After viewing my baby my husband handed the child off to the nurse and the nurse just stood there lost. At St. John's they put our child in the bed thing and wheeled her off to the nursery.
3. The big issue is I pressed the button to call the nurse because it seemed like my child was breathing strange and NOBODY came to me. I pressed it over and over and over. I asked my husband to walk to the front desk but he said no and that he wanted to see how long it would take them. For goodness sakes. I had called the hospital early in the day and so I remembered the number and called them and told them where I was and that the nurse button isn't working. Get this, they never plugged my BED into the wall! What if my husband wasn't there and what if I didn't remember their phone number. I was numb for hours on end.

With my first child I had a version at Woodwinds and he said 1 in 4 will turn and I didn't have any luck. There are issues like a heart shaped uterus which could cause the baby to be breech such as in my case with having two cections.

At St. John's and Woodwinds I had two people in the surgical room.

Once they wheel you back into your bedroom your baby is brought in and left in your room unless you want the baby put in the nursery or if they recommend it for blood pressure reasons. It will be about an hour before you hold and bond with your child which sucks big time but it is what it is.

At St. John's they encouraged my husband to give his pinky to the baby and she was so bad at breastfeeding it took lots of tears from me and persistence but got it to go after a month.

My first time I was in the hospital for 4 days and the second was like 2 or 3 but could have stayed 4.

You can deliver a breech baby and if I would have known that I would have. I feel like my experience was ripped from me and maybe you won't feel like that but I certainly did and it's risky but I've found that sections are too and in some cases more can go wrong with sections.

I hope this helped and feel free to contact me if you have more questions.

I had three c-sections at St. John's for various medical reasons. They were really really nice. I don't know how many people can be in surgery with you, but my husband was there for all three. They take the baby for a little while to get all their "stuff" done, and while they sew you up. Then they bring baby back to you as soon as possible, in recovery. Also, I have a cousin who is a labor and delivery nurse at Woodwinds. It's a really nice place. They will take good care of you, please don't worry!
