I had a c-section 3 years ago. I gained alot around 80 pounds, my upper stomach isn't so hard to slim down but my lower abs & hips I'm having a hard time with. I was wondering if any anyone else has had this problem & what they did to help slim down.

What can I do next?

I have had 2 c-sections with my recent one being 7 months ago and the other one 2 1/2. I am trying to cut down on calories first to get rid of the excess weight while walking for exercise. Then I will tone up with Pilates and boxing. I have never had this much trouble gettin into shape before and have always been fit. It can be done but takes a lot of work.

i have had 3 C-sections and I want to tell you , I have never had any luck getting rid of that extra little fat in my lower abdomen.. I have lost a lot of weight and was small everywhere else but, always managed to keep that little pucker of belly. If you think of it you have lavers of muscles that they are cutting and you are getting sewn from the inside out and thats alot on your body. So I have always taken it as what I had to go through for the 3 wonderful gifts that I recieved. I am now a grandma and my kids are all grown and I look back and see that It was all worth it.Your rewards are much greater...

you need to workout your whole body, It will come off eventually. if you don't have a gym membership just get some resistance bands, they have 'em at miejer, and use them for strenght training. try to get a little cardio in everyday. I know its tough with a toddler, maybe when he naps you can jump rope. and try to eat healthy, it is very important. a good calculation for weight loss is:
(your wieght) x 11 - 500 = how many calories you should consume daily.
try using a free online calculator like Fitday.com.
and sadly a "c-section shelf" as they call it might not go away with diet and excercise.
what did i do? I joined a weightloss program (move it to lose it) at the Y.
I just told you all the things they had us do, good luck.
It is tough, but if you stick with it you'll see results quickly :)

I have had 2 c-sections now plus a partial Hysterectomy. I have been having the same problem. My youngest is 5 years old now. I have been told to sit-ups and crunches but I haven't done it yet. I was contemplating going to Curves and working out. I also need to start watching what I eat too. Try going to Curves. I hope that this helps.

I was never "fit" in the middle area (okay, I'm still not, but better) and was a few pushes away from a C-section (21 hour labor where son was trying to deliver THROUGH my pubic symphysis) and ended up with some pretty damaged abdominal tissue as well as inflamed pelvic bones for close to a year. Anyways, I did the incline treadmill and aerobics and lost 10 pounds to gain it back. Finally, I tried The Bean, which is a low-impact way of building the abs - upper, lower and obliques. I also started looking into The Belly Diet, eliminating artificial sweetners and a whole slew of other processed foods designed to bloat you. So far it's been very slow going because I have a hard time committing to dietary changes, but The Bean has become my meditation time so it helps both my mind and body. I am seeing small changes on the scale and can actually do sit-ups straight from the floor (never been able to do that before).

Hi there! I am very tall, 6' and slim, and I had my fist c-sectoin 10 months ago so I am in your boat and know what you are going through!! I started back to the gym about 2 months ago. I haven't given up hope yet, I know it will take a lot of hard work. Your body just changes when you carry a child and give birth. I am down to my pre-baby weight but my body is not shaped the same and until recently I felt like I had lost a lot of muscle too. (my little dude is 25lbs so lugging him on my hip has been great for toning my arms! ;) ) I still have a little pouch I am working to slim down. And when you have a c-section, they don't cut muscle, at least they didn't cut mine, they separate it as best as they can so it will take time for it to get back to normal looking. Hang in there and don't give up!! :)

Hi S.!

Congratulations on slimming down your upper stomach! I have some thoughts but would like to ask some questions first since everyone is unique. What worked for you? What diets have you used? Have you done a diet analysis for example how much protein are you getting daily? Do you use artificial sweetners?
All of those kinds of things are important to know before just throwing out advice.
Wishing you good success S.! M. G

I haven't had a C-section, but have had about 45 lbs of extra weight to loose. I have been using the Momentum Fitness System by Jonathan Roche and it has been great! I have lost two dress sizes in a little over a month. He combines heart rate intervals with core exercises, this includes your lower abs. By working with your heart rate you slowly increase the difficulty of your interval workouts over time as your body adjusts.

Usually I hate to workout, but now I look forward to it every morning. You can either buy the system with the heart rate monitor (suggested) or without and just use exertion levels as your guide to the interval intensity.

I hope this helps. Here's the website so you can check it out. http://www.momentumfs.com/

You can try out the system for free. He has a section for free workouts and core exercises and if you like what you've tried then you can buy the system outright.

Even better, if you go with the on-line recording system, you earn points for recording your workouts and track your weight. These points can be used towards workout equipment, water packs, sunglasses, etc.

If you do go with the system please write me down as your referral, I get extra points and have been saving for a nice hydration system.

Good luck with your weight loss!

You are definately not alone. My second child (2nd c-section) is now 6 mos. I only gained 30 lbs with each pregnancy, but started the second pregancy about 25 lbs over-weight. I was having a hard time jump starting the weight loss, even though we eat very healthy. About 7 weeks ago I started going to the gym at least 5 times a week and doing an hour of cardio. I make sure I burn at least 500 calorie and aim for 600. I also do a 20 minute pilates tape about 3x per week. It really helps the stomach.

I am finally starting to lose the weight (4 more lbs to my pre-pregnancy weight)-- about 1 lb a week. It is hard work...but I do enjoy the stress relief of the gym and do not want to be an overweight parent.

After about 1 year of being overweight (or over your desired weight) your body re-sets itself making it hard to loss the weight. You need to keep exercising and eating lots of fruit, veggies and lean protein. It will take awhile...but it will come off.

I've found the WW works well too-- but unfortunatley with the trama your stomach goes through in a c-section, you need lots of exercise to get back into shape.

Good luck!

I had a C-section on my first and a wonderful VBAC on my second. I pushed him out in 14 minutes! The recovery time was sooo fast, I was back in the garden in two days! So if you have another child, don't let anyone tell you that you cant have a VBAC. It was one of the best experiences of my life!

Second, NASA did a test to see what the best exercise was so that astronauts could make the most of their exercise time and it was jumping! It exercises your muscles, your heart, your bones, cleans out your lymph system and keeps your organs in shape. I'm going to try that to get into shape quick. I just bought a little mini tramp. Try working jumping into your routine.

i love kick boxing, it tightens everything up, i also had a c-section, and gained around 65 pounds with my first. if you can't go to a gym for kickboxing try tae bo, billy blanks is good, or try pilates. whatever you do you have to stick to it, and also watch what you eat too.

My company sells a product for that stubborn belly fat, if you are interested. But, knowing that your stomach muscles have been cut should tell you that it won't be the same as it was before. Let me know if you want more info on the supplement though! Testimonies say that it works!
