My dishes are all mis-matched and chipped etc. I have 4 young children and a busy house. I want to buy nice quality dishes that are DURABLE. I don't want to waste my money on something that's going to end up disappointing me. But I want beauty too. Any suggestions on a brand of dishes to buy?

What can I do next?

Corelle is what I would do too. We had those growing up and the last FOREVER. It is great and many shades colors, and microwave friendly. I had them for quite sometime, and the only reason, I gave them up, I started selling Longaberger Baskets and Pottery, and started buying their pottery.

I know Target gets really nice seasonal dishes. I got mine I think near Summer time. They are plastic and really durable.

Have you looked into Corelle brand dishes? They are supposed to be break & chip resistant. I have 4 small kiddos too & have run into the same problem. They have them at Wal-Mart, but they have a bigger selection online.

For a while, I bought dishes at Wal-Mart and had the same problem - they were always either chipped or really faded. It was also really hard for me to find exactly what I wanted.

When I redecorated the kitchen in blue, white and yellow, I wanted sonething specific and couldn't find it. I started going to thrift stores and found a bunch of those blue and white "willow ware" (I think that's what they're called). They don't match perfectly, but I like the effect. Plus, it was much much cheaper to buy them that way, and if something happens to one plate, it doesn't ruin a "set". I can just go out and look for another one.

I had the same problem and we jsut bought a set of Corelle dishes from Walmart and I love them. If you look online they have lots of patterns and they are cheaper at walmart than other stores but still the same brand and quality plus they are diswasher, microwaveable, and you can even put them in the stove.

I think if you want something that's pretty indestructible, you should try Corelle. We got Mikasa brand when we got married, but I don't let my daughter eat off of them yet (she just turned 2). Corelle will last forever and can stand up to everything. This is what we had when I was a kid and my mom gave them to me when I went to college. Nowadays, they have lots of nice patterns and some matching pieces besides the plates and bowls. I know WalMart sellls them, but not sure about what patterns they carry.

Good luck!

There is a kitchen outlet over at Grapevine Mills and I bought Corelle there. You can buy a set or by the piece. I went by the piece and got what I needed and extras. It is not the prettiest, all white, but I am an all white and simple person so it works for me. I think I got 25 plates (25 of each in 3 sizes), bowls (25 of each in about 3 sizes), then a couple of serving dishes that match. Nothing has broken and they hold up well.

If we do something fancy and special, I just pull out my special Wedgewood. Most of the time, however, the Corelle works great.

I second the Corelle suggestion. They have some really pretty designs, and I've had mine for 3 years without a chip or a warp from being in the microwave too long!

I got mine on Linens 'n Things' website:

Hope you like!

I served my son on plastic till he could eat right. lol
I have the cutest plastic trays from Pottery Barn. They also sell at WalMart/Target. They also have those theme dishes... anyway... He just started using REAL dishes/big boy cups.
