My 7 month old daughter starting getting these rud bumps on her culy about 5 days ago. They are red and seem to be getting raw. They start out looking almost like a pimple (without the whitehead) and then it seems like somehow they pop making them somewhat raw skin. I have tried the medicated triple paste, using powder to make sure she is dry etc... Some people are telling me it could be from the heat or becuase she is teething but I am not buying it. The doc says i can bring her in if i want but i am not sure if that is necessary or not. Any ideas on what this could be please let me know. Also, if you have any suggestions on how to treat this I would also appreciate the info.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I brought my daughter to the DR. and it IS a yeast infection. They told me to use Lotrimin and Cortizone until the yeast goes away. Thank you all for your advice.

Please don't ever put steriod creams on a closed diaper area as one of the moms suggested. That is specifically what you should not do with those creams. And when using steriods (even over the counter) you should first see a doctor.

Second, it sounds like a yeast infection. So use the cream, after you see all the bumps go away, use it for another 3-5 days. Good luck.

It could absolutly be teething. Both o fmy daughters got/get horrible diaper rash while teething. So bad that it looks like it will bleed, and usually starts with just a few red bumps. There is some kind on change that happens in thier bodies when they teeth, that changes their whole make-up. Some babies even get ear infections. My favorite is one I learned from a patients mom years ago, an old school nurse. It is equal parts zinc oxide, and A&D ointment, and just a touch of betadine ointment (about 1/2 tsp for with one large tube each of A&D and Zinc) She called it Butt Paste, but it is not the same as the Butt Paste you can buy in the stores now. I keep a container on hand at all times, and use it whenever my baby gets a little red. I rarely use anything else. It could also be fungal, as a diaper is a warm moist environment. If it gets worse, or doesn't clear up in a day or two, check with you pediatritian.

My daughter had a similiar problem years ago when she was a baby and it wound up being thrush. Little girls are more prone to it, especially in the heat. Its like a yeast infection; If she really isn't responding to ointments and powder, I'd bring her to the dr. I think it can only be cleared up with an rx ointment. I hope this helps!

Try hydrocortisone 1%. That's what my pediatrician recommends for rashes like that. Good luck.

I dont know what it could be, but I think Baby Aquafor is the heal-all. I use it on everything from head to toe and it works wonders. If the area is sensitive, I squeeze the aquafor right into a clean diaper and then kinda smoosh it around after the diaper is on. Its a little waste-ful, but its much easier on the baby, AND ME! :)
Good Luck!

my daughter had the same thing when she was 1 1/2 the doctor have me try all kinds of creams. desityne, etc. the only thing that started to work for the redned and (what seems to be welting) was balmex. but in the long run she had a yeast infection and had to have an antibiotic cream, whic we found out but taking her to a dermatologist. he took one look at her and knew right away it was a yeast infection. her peditrication just thought it was just heat rash. it was gone in 3 days. and she felt alot better.

Hi T.,
The only thing that seemed to work on my son who is going to be 6 and he still has sensitive skin is "Aquaphor". It is a bit expensive, but works for us. You can buy it at the drug store, and it is a bit cheaper in "Walmart".

My daughter had the same thing at 22 months and it the doctor said it was a yeast infection and gave her a prescription cream and it helped right away. He also said to use Caldasine(sp?) powder. It's in a pink bottle. I still use the powder any time she gets a little red. It works great.

You should definately stop using the powder that just promotes more moisture. This is what you need to do:
1. When she has the rash change her every two hours to ensure she is not sitting in a wet diaper for a long time.

2. Stop using the wipes. You need to just use wet paper towel and dab do not rub!!!!

3. Make sure she is dry then appyly aquaphor ointment and then the triple paste NO POWDER.

** IF you do not see any improvement in two to three days it is most likely a yeast infection from the moisture. So, to the above "recipe" you need to add lotrimin cream and hydrocortisone cream twice a day for 5 days.

If she sleeps through the night make sure you use extra triple paste before ;you put her to sleep.

I hope this helps.

Hi T.,

My son use to get a very similar sounding rash. I would definitely see your pediatrician, it may be a yeast infection.
Over the counter medications are not strong enough to really help when a rash gets this bad. My advice is keep your baby's diaper off as much as you can it will help dry out the sores.
Both my sons had this issue and they both were prescribed an ointment which helped within 24 hours. This can be quite painful for a child so get to a pediatrician as soon as you can.

Good Luck,
R.

Does she have them anywhere else? I would bring her into the dr. Could be a rash from the heat. Keep her out of her diaper as much as possible so the air can help heal the rash.
