Bumpers, and Pacifiers

Our son uses his passy at night mainly - and we are ok with that. We put a pacifier 'mine field' in his crib so that he doesn't loose one. We've begun adjusting his mattress height, and he's in no way trying to stand up yet - but can't decide how to keep the passy's in the crib if we remove the bumpers... any suggestions???

What can I do next?

The only way would be to attach it to his clothing in some way so that it will not move very far if it does fall out and he can find it easily and will better be able to soothe himself.

Hello Sarah,
As long as you have him in a crib you should keep the bumper pads in. They are there to protect him from getting hurt if he moves around and bumps himself. Just a suggestion, have you tried a paci holder that attches to their clothes? That might help him keep it close a hand when it falls out at night. I know your feeling about loosing paci's. All 3 of mine were paci babies!! Good luck!!

I had the same problem with my daughter. We did two things. 1) we attatched a plastic measuring cup (the kind with the handle) to her crib where she could reach it, and kept it full of pacifiers. She learned that if she couldn't find one, all she had to do was reach in the cup. 2) we got her this little teething blanket with an elastic strap to hold a pacifier on one corner. We just kept one pacifier attached to that, and she almost never droped it out of her crib. And it was easier for her to find. You can get them at Wal-Mart, or like Kroger type stores. I don't agree with using a pacifier strap at night. The can wrap around his neck, or they can break off and be a choking hazard. As far as leaving the bumber in, it's judgment call. I pulled my daugther's out when she started pulling up, but after a couple months put them back in because she would get her legs stuck between the slats.

I agree with the other two moms. Leave the bumpers in. There is no need to take them out.

I have five children and we never took their bumpers out until around 18 months. So you could leave the bumper in for a while longer without any problems!
