Hello: Ok Moms and Dads:
My Brother has been offered a position at his job of General Manager for a Non-Medical in home assistance. He has been working there for a yr and has been told that his work is outstanding!! so they have now offered him this GM position with only a 5,000.00 raise which he will already rec'v half of that amount in his normal raise in Oct. there are other bonuses if the company does well. HERE's the catch. he will still be doing his same position along with the GM position. I think this is not a fair rate to pay him. PLEASE GIVE ME SOME INPUT MAYBE ON AN AVERAGE SALARY THAT A GM (of a non-medical company)should make and all that. thanks,

What can I do next?

Non Medical In home assistane - is his the current way of saying group home or assisted living kind of stuff?
My husband and i were both managers of residential group homes - his less medically involved than mine. I would say pay is right on for a couple of reasons:
1. there is just not a lot of money in this line of work. companies try to offset the hit by offering better benefits when they can. The overturn is high and well, if he can last there are perks after a bit.
2. would be the level of skill involved in the work. In HR a job is only worth so much based on skill level and other related characteristics. This is why we don't have cashiers at the grocery store making 25.00 an hour after 0 years of service - they get topped out. Is this fair? who knows. He could also be starting out at the bottom of the pay scale in ths manager position but was at the top of the pay scale at the direct care worker position.does this make sense?

I know it sounds disappointing but... unfotunately there is little reward for caring for people and our commuity - just take Sara Palin's goffing t community organizers - for some reason people don't value a sense of stewardship.

You've already had some good responses. I would think that it depends on what the title really is. I'm a nurse, and our charge nurses are now called "clinical coordinators." They still work the floor with us, but also have paperwork to do, our reviews, meetings to go to, etc. And their pay rate is about 1% higher than what our highest seniority nurses make. So General Manager could be more like a charge position, but a different name.

I don't really understand the job. is this a group home type environment. 5,000.00 pay increase for a 1 step promotion does not sound like a bad raise.

You can check out Payscale.com and plug in the information and see what a median wage is and job description for the GM position for different areas in the country. Hopefully that will help. That's a hard decision! Maybe he can negotiate some more - like more vacation time or something.
