Broomfield Pediatric Dentist Who Can Handle My Son's Terrible High Anxiety

My 5 year old son completely freaked out when he was 3 and again now that he is 5 when anyone tries to put any dental instruments in his mouth. He first refuses to open his mouth, then will flail around, face red, tears streaming, etc...(and he doesn't react this way to anything else). He definitely has some cavities in there which I can see & he complains about, but it has been a horrible experience to take him to the dentist! Please let me know if there is a dentist around who is great with kids and anxiety, and who won't try to gouge us for procedures not necessary. We live on the edge of Westminster & Broomfield. Thank you!

So What Happened?

THANK YOU ALL for your responses:-) I ended up taking my son to Young Dentistry for Children. My Mom (his Grammie) was visiting and she went in with him while I waited in the waiting area. He was like a completely different child - probably a combination of factors contributed to him going through with the exam...(i.e. different place, hurting teeth, Grammie, and the wonderful Dentist & assistants). Anyway, my Mom loved the Dentist and could tell that he must have young children himself because he knew just what to say and just what to do to ease my son's anxiety. We have future work planned with Youngs Dentistry and now I would recommend them to other Mom's!

Children's Dentistry in Westminster!!

This practice is amazing! Made Denver's magazine 5280, Top Dentist's of 2008 AGAIN.
Sisters Dr. Betty & Nelle have been doing this for years and have perfected the pediatric practice.
Exrta bonus....a giant castle in the waiting room.
My son had some major work at just over 2 years and both my kids LOVE going in for checkups. They are so generous, I've found sometimes they should have charged us more.
Good luck.

I take my kids to Brian Rieker in Westminster. ###-###-####. I would say call and talk to them first see what they think. I also went previously to Dr Christianson in Lafayette and he is specialized in Pediatric dentistry. He was sweet, the staff was great and all that but the rates went up vs what my insurance would cover.
Dr Rieker has kids of his own, it is a small practice and my kids adore him.
Good luck.

We love Foothills Pediatric Dentistry and Dr Christenson. He's wonderfully caring, as are all his staff. The clinic is about as kid friendly as you can get and still be a medical office. Check them out at:
http://www.foothillspediatricdentistry.com/
They have two offices one at Baseline at 287 in Louisville/Lafayette and another in Longmont.

Hope your son can find someplace he's comfortable with, dentist visits shouldn't have to be stressful. GL!

There is a fantastic pediatric dentist on 77th and Sheridan. His name is Dr. Witkoff. He is wonderful with my two children who both like to go to the dentist now! His office is done in a jungle theme for the kids and everyone there is awesome with the kids. The address is 7578 Sheridan Blvd. and phone is ###-###-####. I recommend him to all of my mom friends. Good luck.

Hey I don't know if this will help, but Dr. Hoffman is off of 101st and Washington. He is fabulous!! When encountered with a young girl who would not open her mouth he talked calmly and tried to have her willingly open her mouth. When she would not do this he would come out and tell her mother its not going to work today, so bring her back next week sometime and we'll try again. He was not pushy or radical. He was calm understanding and great. Again his name is Dr. Geoffrey Hoffman and is at North Washington Dental Group. By the way that little girl was me!! Good Luck

My daughter was very similar and visits were tramatic for her (and me!!). A friend referred us to Dr. Young at Young Dentistry and we have loved it. They were very patient with her and she is now able to go to the dentist without the big episodes. Yeah! Here is their link: http://www.youngdentistryforchildren.com/
Good luck finding a good fit for your son!

Hi K. -

We now go to Children's Dentistry in Westminster (80th and Sheridan). My older son had to have multiple cavities filled - we did it in two different appointments. We saw Dr. Sean and he was great. My son did have some anxiety issues and they were very patient with him and we were able to get all the work completed.

Hope that helps - I saw someone else already listed out their website for you. - www.ddschild.com

Although my daughter's anxiety doesn't sound as high as your son's, we have had great success with our pediatric dentist:

Edward A. Christensen, DDS
1120 W. So. Boulder Road
Suite 204
Lafayette, CO 80026
###-###-####

He is close to the corner of 287 and South Boulder Road.

Good Luck!

I highly recommend youngDentistry for Children.
They have 2 locations, one in Westminster, right by the new High School/Junior High off of Huron, and on in Louisville.

The doctors are awesome and they just love (and understand) kiddos. Nate's first appointment they actually had him lay in my lap instead of the big scary chair. He just LOVES to go there now. I hope this helps. -- K.

Hi Kristen! Would love to hear the responses as my son who is also 5 is going thru the same thing. So far the best luck I've had is Childrens Hospital Dentistry in Aurora. They really are good with kids and their prices beat anyones including those with insurance! the only fall back is that you have to wait 1-2 months to get a regularly scheduled appointment. Otherwise you can go in any day Mon - Fri 7:30 - 11:30 as an emergency walk in for immediate treatment. I guess the only other fall back is that they are located in Aurora. I live in Northglenn and I have to say that I don't mind the trip for the good treatment we receive and my son's comfort level there. My son has already had one tooth pulled by them and he responded quite well. If you want to talk more, please feel free to email me at ____@____.com luck - V.
