I have not nursed my daughter for 4 1/2 months now. My question is have any other moms had trouble with their breasts still leaking a little this long after not nursing or should I call my doctor. They are not leaking horribly. Just when I squeeze the nipple or during intercourse. Not sure if this is normal or not but am a little worried. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you! I will wait until my yearly check up then and just mention it. It is always nice to hear great responses from people who don't judge you.

It's normal. You may have discharge for years. As long as there is no fever, soreness (other than PMS, LOL), bad smelling discharge, concerning lumps...etc, Things are fine. :-)

I had the same thing for at least a year after I stopped nursing....I breastfed her up to 9 months, and it really took awhile. It's normal.

I stopped breastfeeding my daughter two years ago and it wasnt untill 3 months ago that my breast stopped giving milk. It is normal for that to still happen but if you are worried then just call the doc and ask them. That is what they are for. Good luck!

Hi K.,

I nursed my son for 14 months and stopped when I became pregnant with my daughter. After she was born I nursed her until she was 20 months old, because she was such a picky eater. After I stopped nursing her I had the same problem with my breasts leaking. It was at least 6 months later, and I could still get a little bit of milk from them. I did go to the doctor, and she said it was pretty common. From what I remember it wasn't until a year later that it stopped completely. It slowly was less and less. I was told to try not to have my breasts stimulated, because this is what would keep the milk coming. Try to wear a sports bra to bed. Also I remember trying not to let the shower water hit my breasts for long, because even that was enough stimulation to produce a little bit of milk.

That sounds normal. You can leak for quite some time afterwards.

Hi, K.!
Totally normal! It can take a year or more for your breasts to totally "dry up".
If you're interested in re-lactating (going back to nursing), now would be a GREAT time to start! If you're interested in any information, you can find TONS at www.KellyMom.com (just look up "re-lactation" or "adoptive breastfeeding").
Hope that helps some!

It is normal so don't worry. It is a little annoying but just wear breast pads and know that the breast feeding experience will be over in a flash. Enjoy the miracle that God gave us and as for intercourse, my husband loved it when they leaked.

I had a similar problem with leaking anytime a baby would cry. Out at the mall, grocery store or anywhere. I used breast pads at all times and was told by a neighbor to apply pressure when it started. I would simply hold my arms in, forearms applying pressure, hands under my chin. I did this for about 45 seconds each time and really noticed a difference. Hope this helps!

Leakage for a while is normal. I leaked for a year after nursing! I had a very large supply. At one year, my doc sent me for blood work and everything was fine. He told me not to touch or stimulate for at least two months, and to tell my husband too! LOL! How embarassing. Anyway, it worked and everything dried up in two months. Don't worry at all. If it bothers you, do what I did, no touching or stim. Don't check to see if there is still milk there.

It takes quite a while for the breasts to completely involute after nursing. My second son nursed for 2 1/2 years and I could express milk for over a year after he stopped. It is VERY normal. It will go away on its own and is not a problem.

I stopped nursing my youngest son 8 months ago and still experience some leakage during intercourse. It seems like a long time, but I can't imagine that there is any harm in it. I have occasionally thought it was strange, but never really had a concern about it. I'm curious to see the responses you get!
