Breastmilk will never go away. This kind of leaking is worse for Moms who breastfed less than 2 years, mainly because breastfeeding was biologically meant for at least 2 years and if you quit before, your body still wants to do what it was made to do.

The Mother's body will ALWAYS have a minimal production continue in the small chance it's needed again. The memory of these specialized cells is amazing, this is why re-lactation is so simple.

Please go to your doctor and ask about your hormones and pituitary gland. A friend started producing breast milk long after nursing and it was a pituitary gland issue. I am not a doctor or nurse but, this is what I would recommend.

If the suggestions other posters listed below don't dry you up, I would have your hormone levels checked. I never had a problem drying up after I quit (4 mos with baby #1 and 12 mos with baby #2 -- first one had severe latch issues). I really didn't leak milk at all within a month after quitting. Of course, I also don't leak colostrum while still pregnant (currently 37 weeks with Baby #3) and tons of other women do....Hope it stops for you! What a mess!

How long since you stopped breast feeding? It does take several weeks for the milk to dry up.

There are herbs that are said to help. You can ask your doctor about medication that will also help.

You can take 80mg of Sudefed for 3 days and that should dry up your milk. I work with IBCLCs on a daily basis and this is what they suggest to moms all the time. If after 3 days you still have milk you can continue on the drug for another 4 days (1 wk total).

Ok, so you are still leaking, according to my knowledge and what I have experienced. The only way to have milk being produced is have your breast stimulated. Without saying exactly how, I just want to say that you want to stop that immediately. It will cause you to have high Prolactin Levels. This is when your body begins to think it is pregnant and its not. It is very hard to bring that level down. Not only that, this high Prolactin level can cause those little tiny tumors we all all get on the bottom of our brain to grow because of the high levels. This is definitely something you are going to want to discuss with your doctor. You should not be producing milk and definitely not leaking after over 2yrs of ending breastfeeding. Mommy please go and get this checked out immediately. Have your pituitary gland checked as soon as possible. Your hormone levels also need to be checked.

Best Wishes!
