Breakouts on My Face, What Is Going On?

I need some help. I am 43 years old and in the past year I have had more breakouts than my entire life! I can wake up in the morning with anywhere from 2 to 10 small white pimples on my face. I need to check my face multiple times a day to be sure no new ones have developed. It is really embarrassing! Does anyone have any insight or has this happened to you? Prior to this year, I would only get very minor breakouts right before my period. Now, there is no rhyme or reason to these breakouts. And I have not changed my eating habits or my skin care. Help!
Thanks,

What can I do next?

I'm guessing it's still hormonal, and strictly because you're not too terribly far from atleast the beginning of menopause-starting age.

Have you been taking any new medications? New birth control? Or did you take some kind of med before this began? The reason I ask is because my sister and I became allergic to some of our favorite skin care products and lotions after taking meds. It is like it threw our systems off. I am also allergic to raw bananas now. I ate them for 38+ years and then they started making me have severe stomach cramps and I think it is a result of the meds. We both stopped taking whatever it was but the issues didn't go away. I would try changing your skin care products and see if that
helps.

I agree, I think it's most likely your hormones, you should talk to your doctor and have them checked just to make sure.

It could be stress too, or a different bodily inbalance.

It sounds to me like its hormonal. Talk to your doctor or dermatologist about it.
Breaking out in certain areas can indicate certain different things.
I suggest using natural witch hazel as and astringent after washing. Don't use anything too harsh on your skin. Witch hazel is cleansing, soothing, and won't irritate the situation.

Best wishes.

Could it be hormones from menopause starting or anything? I think my mom said menopause started at around your age for her (it took several years before her period actually stopped, but she had several years of things being "weird" starting around your age). Just a thought because I'm guessing the hormones could cause acne. Otherwise, I have no idea...it is odd!

Around my 30s I started getting acne, most noticeably around the time of my period. Acne like I’d never seen before. I would get facials, went to a dermatologist and was told it’s “adult acne”. This happened for over a year – until I stopped drinking diet pepsi which I had every day… the acne went away immediately. Must be all the chemicals in coke/pepsi or whatever. I drank diet so it wasn’t the sugar.

I just hit 40 this year and a few months back, I started getting bad acne as well and noticed my face was super greesy. With all the symptoms I was experiencing, my ob gyne said I was entering Peri menopause. I told her I was way too young for that and she said this phase could last 10 years.

My periods got super heavy, but only lasted 2 days, I've gained 10 pounds (mostly in my belly), about 6 months ago, I went from 5 grey hairs to at least 30 and my hair and face are super greesy.

So, you may be entering peri menopause. The solution for me was to get back on the pill.

I could have written this question. I am 35, and always had some acne issues up until a couple of years ago. My face was mostly clear until a month and a half ago. Now I have thos big cyst like things. I feel like I'm 15 again! My skin has been super oily, too. I'm chalking it up to hormones right now. I go to the dr. at the end of June. I plan to ask her about it. Nothing else has changed in my diet or life, so what else could it be?

Another possibility is rosacea. It frequently starts at mid-life. I would check with a dermatologist for a diagnosis.

It could definitely be the product that you are using. There are many that will cause breakouts. Certain suncsreens will definitely do it so check if your foundation or moisturizer has them. Also check your cleansing routine-Ponds Cold Cream, for example, will cause major breakouts.

Rotten hormones! My skin hasn't been so bad since I was a teenager! Sorry, I don't have any advice, but I can sympathise.

Hi T.---I agree it is most likely hormones and, unfortunately, a part of this stage of life. I have a suggestion that might help without having to go to a doctor and down a path of using prescriptions as a band-aid.

Get more soluble fiber into your diet. Adequate fiber (at least 50 grams per day...most Americans don't even get the recommended 24 grams) helps with a whole bunch of health issues. The obvious, of course, is regularity and reducing the risk of colorectal cancers. But, fiber also does many other wonderful things for our health.

When we eat a plant based diet...about 90% of calories from plants, we automatically will lose weight where necessary, or maintain an ideal weight if there. Think volume and nutrient density. Plant foods contain the nutrients we need for our body to protect itself from disease. Secondly, soluble fiber...the spongy inside part of a pepper, the pith of an orange, the gelatinous part of oatmeal...gets into the bloodstream and soaks up excess cholesterol and HORMONES where they are safely carried out of the body and not reabsorbed into the bloodstream.

Be sure to get plenty of sleep, drink lots of filtered water, reduce stress as best you can, exercise and eat mostly plants (when you eat animal protein, be sure it is hormone and antibiotic free so those added to the animals do not contribute to your hormone imbalance...if you are eating less of it, you can afford to eat healthier forms of it).

I welcome your questions so feel free to contact me. Good luck...D.

Where are your pimples? Are they on your cheeks primarily? At age 30 I was diagnosed with roscea after lots of stress and going to the tanning salon 4 times. The UV lights make it go crazy. I used the medicine and it helped, but taking salicylates and artificial additives out of my diet helped clear my skin the most. When I eat strawberries for 2-3 times I break out now, but I was able to be in California for 12 days and the sun didn't break me out anymore. I had perfect skin as a teenager, so this was a huge switch for me. My skin is much better now.
