Braum's Fat Free Milk

Hi Moms,

A few days ago, I posted a question about rBST free milk, and many people advised me to buy Braum's milk, which I did, and I thank you!!! It is also organic, I just learned, and so much cheaper than organic milk at a regular grocery store! Anyway, when I was drinking my fat free Braums milk today, I glanced at the nutrition label, horrified to learn that 1 cup is 130 calories!! Fat free milk is always 90 calories per cup. Does anyone know why Braums's fat free milk is more calories? Thanks, M.

What can I do next?

I am not sure why it is higher but I responded to you the other day and let you know that Walmart brand and Borden brand are all now free of this protein hormone as well. Maybe revisit that and see what percentage of calories theirs have.

If I remember correctly, it is more condensed than typical fat free milk and it has more protein. Compare the labels next time your there.

They probably do not dilute it down as much as other milks. I think if you looked at some other fat free milks on the market each might be just a litte different in calories. Braum's has a great dairy farm I am glad to hear it is organic. Read this article http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qa3846/is_200105/ai...

I heard it is because they ad sugar. Fat free on some things just means fat, and doens't mean calories at all, a lot of products that say that actually have a a lot of sugar, just not fat content.

I go to church with a man that knows/works with the Braums family for many years. He told me that the reason is because Braum's condenses the milk instead of using "powder". Which is also wby it's not as blue looking or watery. And it's also the reason why it tatses more like whole milk.

HTH, but remember that it's second hand info.

Check to be sure that you bought the right one from Braums. They have 4 different types. I found the cap color I was used to buying for 2% milk at other stores was actually 3.3% at Braums so don't depend on the cap color, actually read the label. They have 3.3%, 2%, 1%, and I believe skim. Also once you start drinking Braums milk no other milk will do because it is soooo good.
