So I'm stuck on the BRAT diet for a week. Anyone know how to make it more exciting?

So What Happened?

Thank you for all of your suggestions and keep them coming if you have others! (It will be a LONG week ;-)

It is my understanding that bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast do not require any enzymes to digest and that's why I was told to follow the BRAT diet. I definitely like the idea of the grilled banana because it would definitely give them a different flare! I'll be firing up my grill later on today.

Is there any way to make bananas, rice, applesauce and toast exciting?? Isn't the whole point that it is about as bland as it gets? Sorry you're stuck on such limited fare for the next week... :(

Ugh- sorry. Maybe Jello? Popsicles- not the real juice kind. Something like Otter Pops or Hoodsie Pops- the fake stuff can be easier on the stomach. Pretzels? Rice Cakes. Plain baked potato w/ a little salt, if you want. Saltines. My Mom always gave me hard boiled eggs when I was recovering from a stomach bug- with tea and toast. Hope you feel better soon!! :)

I tend to add oatmeal and cream of wheat to my brat diet.
At least I can put the fruit in the oatmeal.
It is boring and bland for a reason.

Sorry - feel better soon.

Depends on why you're on BRAT. In reality, there are quite a few more foods that you can add in if you're looking just for bland and easy on the stomach. There's nothing magic about bananas, rice, applesauce and toast. You could replace any of those with turkey, water crackers, oatmeal, peaches, yogurt or peeled potatoes. So that might be one way to spice it up!

Umm... applesauce ON the toast, with chopped bananas on top? That's the most exciting thing I can think up... lol.

You might try making rice pudding, mix some of the stuff you would use to flavor water (like those packets you pour into a bottle...) into applesauce to give it different flavors... Grilled bananas are good, (surprisingly! Wrap it in tinfoil and throw it on the grill.) but I'm not sure if that changes the composition or something...

Hi, B.D.:
Change your diet to the
Dr. Phil's 17 Day Diet.
See how that works.

my doc says there is not much difference in eating regularly vs the BRAT ... best to stay away from heavy spices or hot spices, along with grease, fat or high sugars.
