Bra Recommendations?

Okay...I've had just about enough of Victoria's Secret. They're overpriced, and no matter how many times they measure me, they never fit right.

I'm tall, but have a short upper body. Which means I'm all leg. And which also means that my straps are always falling off because my shoulders aren't as "tall" as the average woman. So I've pretty much resigned myself to two things: I wear sports bras to work (military), and if I wear a regular bra elsewhere, I'm going to be adjusting ALLLLLLL the time.

Any 34C, hourglass figured, tall ladies out there with the same problem? Can you recommend a great bra (and tell me where you got it?). I want one that looks great under clothes.

Do you have a Nordstrom near you? They are soooo much better than VS at measuring and recommending bras. And the prices are very reasonable too. Go there!

I cannot agree more with getting a good bra fitting!!! Turns out I was wearing the totally wrong size and I tought that I was taking my measurements correctly. What I thought was a C turned out to be DD!!

Do NOT go to Victoria Secret for a measurement either. They are completely incorrect because the will only give you the measurements for one of THEIR sizes, which are far from complete. Norstroms is the way to go. Totally worth a road trip!!

I am probably repeating other responses because I just hit the respond button....

Nordstroms (my favorite) and Neimans have the best bra fitters. I LOVE these 2 places.

I am a natural perky 34DD and I refuse to wear a Grandma bra and they helped me find comfortable and functional bras. I have a racer back (beige and black) by Wacoal that I Love and another regular strap bra by Wacoal that I love in beige and black. I paid about $60+ for each one but they are worth every penny.

I like something that looks nice under clothes... no seams, no padding, no designs, etc. Just the comfy fambis and me. I love these.

I don't know if you have Nordstrom or Neimans in your area. If not, a good Department store should have the Wacoal brand.

Good luck

I, too, recommend getting measured at Nordstrom's. They do a good job of measuring and finding a well fitting bra.

I've found bras that work for me by trying on literally dozens of bras over the years. I've learned that with age my bra size and style changes. I learned what to look for when fitting a bra at Nordstrom's. I went there for a fitting a couple of times, bought one bra, and then looked for the same or similar style at discount stores like Ross and Marshall's.

I've now found a really good fitting bras at Kohl's and Fred Meyer. I found the exact same bra at Ross.

My shoulders are sloping and I've found that a bra in which the straps are placed closer to the center in the back and the front help immensely. I don't even try on the decolletage bras anymore.

Bras like shoes are all different -- do all the shoes at the store in your size fit you???? No, of course not.

Go to Penney's and get a fitting. I was a bra fitter there for over 3 yrs and most of the time when I had a customer come in looking for the size VS told her she wore it was the wrong size. One customer was told she needed a 36 DDD and she said they were so uncomfortable she wore sports bras for 10 yrs. I sized her and put her in a 40 B and for the first time in 10 yrs she was comfortable in a bra.

Now about the straps. When you bra shop look for bras that have the strap attached close to the center in the back so the strap is at a diangle (sp) to the shoulder. The front strap should also be close to the middle. It's not a short waist that causes the straps to fall it is narrow shoulders. I am short waisted but wide shoulders so I never have that issue. Also look for T straps or bras that have a T strap option, small hook on the O ring on the back of the strap. Be aware when you T strap these bras the 'girls' really sit up.

OMG! I don't have the same body type, but I totally understand! I have never EVER been measured correctly! The way it is done is NOT the best way. The best way I have EVER seen is to go to HerRoom.com! On the home page, on the right is a Know your Breasts bra finder. It is phenominal! I recommend you take the test when you can be alone and in front of a mirror. They ask specific questions and give drawings of what they mean so you can compare yourself and select the drawing that is most 'you'. NO MEASURING!!!
Then for each type of breast you have they give you a list of what to look for in a bra and some suggestions of bras that fit that category.
For instance: If you have under arm 'spread'(which can happen to thin girls too), you should look for a bra with 3-4 inch sides and preferably has support or 'stays' in them. For Splayed Breasts: look for a bra with three section cups to help bring the 'girls' into the front more, giving you a more youthful look, etc.
I love, love, love herroom.com, BUT, I then go to amazon or soma to buy the same bra as they are less expensive!

I like barely there ones without an underwire. The straps are pretty adjustable.

I second Nordstrom's! They really train those ladies to know what they are doing! I'm too big for VS and when I was pregnant I went all the way up to an "I". Yes, they do make them that big! ;) Anyway, no matter your size, Nordstrom's is awesome! The bras will probably be at least the same price, maybe more, but it's worth it to me when I can find one that fits!

Have you ever been to SOMA? They are great at measuring. I had always assumed I was a 38C, but it turned out that I am a 36DD once they measured me. Who knew? My bras actually fit now (and are comfortable), and my clothes seem to fit better (I look thinner). I am also tall and all legs, and have found the SOMA bras to be adjustable enough for me. They are in the same price range as Victoria's Secret, and have really pretty things in a wide size range.

I have that problem too and quit buying VS years ago. True they are over priced even though they're pretty. But when I have to keep adjusting the straps it's not worth the price. I had them measure me too a few times. One sales woman said I am a 36C and another said 38C. I tried both sizes on and neither fit the way it should. I just buy mine from Kohl's or Target now. Same quality and way cheaper IMHO.

Consider going to an old-fashioned lingerie and ladies foundation garment shop. I have had the only (best) luck at one.

I really like the Wacoal bras. I am also short-waisted with narrow shoulders and most other bras fall off my shoulders. The Wacoal underwire (I'm a bit bigger and need the support) is the only one I've used that actually stays on. I never have to mess with the straps while wearing; just re-adjust every few washings.

(ps,-- I am not tall, but definitely curvy and stacked. I was also being fitted for 'the bras we have' at the store as opposed to my real size. I was wearing department store 38 DDs when I should have been sized with a much shorter band size and a larger cup size. The old-school stores will have a larger variety in stock, so you get a better fit. I also found that the price was lower than the department store price too. The difference was phenomenal!) And with all the good reviews here, I'll have to try Nordstroms if the place I like closes. Thanks for the tip, ladies!

Another vote for Wacoal! And Nordstroms is great but have had good luck with measurements at Macy's too. I think you have Dillard's there in MO, I bet they would be helpful.

Spanx

I found the most comfortable bra, yet back sliming bra there. It is the side hook bra that is for the back. Straps never slide down....it's worth the price. I think about $70 but you will love them.
