BPA And Pthalate Free Bottles

I am trying to choose new bottles for our second baby. I have replaced all of my son's sippy cups with BPA free products. As much as I hate to throw out the Avent bottles I stockpiled from last time I am more unwilling to knowingly feed my child in bottles I know are leaching chemicals. I will be breastfeeding, but I need bottles for daycare and trips to grandma's house. Do I go with glass, or the BPA free bottles? I was reading reviews on the new BPA free Avent bottles that said they leak like mad. I loved their predecessors as there were few pieces to find, clean, and keep up with. I'm a little afraid of the glass bottles as we are a very clumsy family and they are also stupid expensive. Help! Have any of you used any of the new bottles?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all so much for your help. I found a really great company when I was looking at the parent's section on Grist the other day. The company is Green to Grow and they have what seems to be a great product, not too many pieces and chemical free. If any of you have heard anything negative I would like a heads up, but everything I've found seems to be positive. Thanks again for all of your help.

I use the evenflo comfee bottles, they work great and are much cheaper than the others....they only cost $9 for three large bottles.

Dr Brown's has changed their plastic bottles to BPA-free kind. The ones to look for have that cloudy white translucent color instead of C. clear like the old plastic ones which contained BPA. I switched out all my Dr. Brown's bottles for the new ones and I love them! I've been very happy with Dr. Brown's anyway, so I was glad they came out with the BPA-free plastic. I just wasn't comfortable using glass bottles around my baby as she tends to suddenly fling a bottle from her mouth to the floor.

Hi C.-
I use Dr. Brown's BPA-free bottles and LOVE them! They are now available at Target and Wal-Mart and easy-to-find place. When I got them back in May, they were only sold online. Anyway, they are great. My baby loves them, too, and we've never tried any others. I have friends that have used Born Free bottles, though, and loved them. Good luck!

I use the new Avent bottles and I haven't had a problem with them leaking. I used the old version with my son (before I knew about the BPA thing) and loved them, which is why I wanted to use them this time with my daughter. They aren't really any different in functionality and quality as they were before.

Good for you!

We use Born Free. We don't use them much, but they work great. You can find them online or at the healthfoods store.

We are also going to go with the Klean Kanteen sippy cups, and they have nipples that screw right in, so you get a bottle that converts to a sippy cup with minimal expense (like $4.00). This way it lasts for years as your baby's needs change. So you might want to just use Klean Kanteen bottle/sippy.

Have fun! Sure would love to swap ideas, bookmarks, etc. PM me if you like.

PS try "Prenatal Hypnotherapy" if you want to try to go med-free for your labor. Worked like a charm. I was smiling through transition! Like $40 online.

I started using the Dr. Browns BPA free bottles and have absolutely no problems with them!

Also, Babies R US allowed me to return all of my other Dr. Brown's bottles to get the BPA free ones. They return bottle for bottle. Just a thought. You may want to call them.

I have been using the Avent BPH-free bottles. They are sort of expensive, but they only leak (for us anyway) if you fail to screw the lid on tight enough... I've certainly done that on occasion, but it doesn't happen when I pay attention. Anyway, I like them -- they clean easily and are lasting well. Good luck.

Avent bottles and pumps are made in England, where BPH has been outlawed for several years. I never used any of their bottles for "bottles," but I used my Isis pump several times. They never made a big deal out of being BPH-free, but I noticed it on their website while I was pg with my second. I don't know how long ago the change was, though, but you might even be able to use your older ones with a little research. Hope this helps :)

Not sure where you live, but I've heard of moms in my area taking their old bottles to Babies R Us and swapping them for the BPA free kind. I don't know if they had to be purchased from there or not. I think you trade yours in and then if you get a different brand or whatever you just pay the difference. Hope this helps!

I used Playtex drop-ins which were very easy to use and clean up.
