Boy's Hair

I am a mother to 2 boys. My youngest is bald so right now his hair is no problem :) My oldest is 4, most days we just comb his hair and go but for special occasions I like to gel it a little. The problem is it always looks the same. I get it cut with a 2 and a 4. When I gel it I spread it on a comb and then spike the front of his hair a little. Other than that I am totally lost on what to do with his hair or how to style it. Any tips? How do you do your son's hair? I need specifics, step by step please...

What can I do next?

This is the wonderful thing about boys....they are totally wash and wear!! You don't have to DO anything except slick it down with water in the morning if they have bed-head. My 8yo is doing the long and shaggy thing that all of the boys are doing these days and I only ask that he comb it so it's not a complete rats nest. My little one wants to be like his brother so he's freaking out about hair-cuts. He's getting shaggy right now too! :) I only mess with it if it's messy. If it's neat then I leave it alone. Boys are so much easier than girls! (I had a SD with long fine hair in my first marriage and I had to braid her hair every night and re-braid it every morning just to keep it from tangling!)

Ok, I have 3 boys. My oldest (8) and youngest (1) have thick, straight hair and no matter how short I cut it, I can always run a bed head wax stick through it and get it to spike or move. If we go out in the heat and the style falls, I just run my fingers through it again to restyle.

My middle son has very thin hair with a slight curl so any type of gel or wax makes in look like limp spaghetti if long or like I didn't wash the conditioner out of his hair if it is short. I usually use a bit of hairspray if I absolutely must do something to tame his hair.

I hope this helped.

my son has long layered curls, like a jobro or one of those disney channel kids lol. i don't know what to call it, but he is 3 and it's stinkin adorable. but he has a very "sweet" face, not terribly masculine so it really works on him. all i do is wet it down and the top sort of flattens and it livens up the curls on the sides, and he's ready to go.

I actually just take clippers to my boys' hair (28 year old husband, 3 1/2 year old, and 2 year old). When it starts to fall over I clip it again. :) Good luck with styling! I can't stand my own when it grows out so have no ideas beyond clippers.

My boys are 5 and 7 and they love to either have their hair spiked or in a faux-hawk. It really does look cute on little ones. It does need to be a little longer on top for the faux-hawk though.

I'm a hairstylist. A clipper cut is too short to do different styles with unless the top is left a little longer and texturized. What kind of hair are we talking about? Personally my opinion is that little boys look the cutest with short hair and it's the easiest to deal with. Fo-hawks are kinda cool and can be styled both conservatively and wild. But if it's boring it could be grown out a bit longer. If you google search some different styles and take the pics to your stylist they may be able to give you some ideas. For older boys the longer looks with longer side bangs are in right now but there isn't really "a look" for real young boys. Tigi Manipulator is a great product to put in hair to get it to spike, style messy, glue down, and for mohawks and fo-hawks. A little bit goes a long way.
