Bottle Nipples?

I am having a problem with the nipples for my son's bottles. He is six weeks old and I can't seem to find the right kind of nipple for his bottles. I have slow flow nipples, but they are too slow and he gets really frustrated that it doesn't come out fast enough. So, I went and bought medium flow nipples, but they come out too fast and he drools a lot of his formula out. I just didn't know if there is a certain brand that helps with this or if there is something in between slow and medium. I never had this problem with my first son, so any advice would be greatly appreciated!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank You all so much for your responses! The slow flow nipples that I bought did not work with poking an extra hole, so I bought some really cheap generic nipples and they really did work great! They are not to slow and not to fast! I will probably keep these ones and poke an extra hole when he wants to start drinking faster! Thank you again!

Its not too late to breastfeed! Those nipple are perfect for regulating the flow for the babies suck, in fact thats waht they are made for.

I know when my son was a baby we had the same problem and we went out an bought all kinds of nipples (just the nipples all brands and kinds) untill we found which ones worked best for him then we went and bought as many as we could. different name brands and kinds silicone vs. reg. all are different and the nipples are fairly cheap if you buy them without the bottle and top.
I hope this helps you.

With my first son, now 3-1/2 years old, I swore by the regular gerber nipples. I replaced all my bottles with these nipples. With my 5 month old, I have had great success with the Advent nipples. I would suggest either of the above.

I had the same issue with my daughter. I found the small Dr. Brown's nipples to be the best. They're only about an inch in diameter. You can get them at Babies R Us. She lasted about a month on the Newborn flow and slowly worked her way up. She didn't like any of the larger nipples that are out there that are meant to simulate a breast, for example, Avent.

I had a preemie and found out just to buy the cheap old fashioned bottles that don't even come with a fancy nipples.

I had tried fancy bottles and this kind and that kind. It was to fast or to hard for her. After she was a few months older I easily could give her any kind of bottle it didn't matter but in the beginning the cheapest bottles worked best go figure.

I had the same problem with my son and my Mom suggested making the hole a little bigger on the slow flow nipples. I took a pin and made the hole a little bigger and it worked good.

I used to poke extra holes as needed in the nipples for my daughter, it worked way better than trying to find an inbetween. Good luck!

I'm not sure which bottles you are trying-but I run a child care center out of my home and had the same problem with one of my little ones. He was using Avent-and we switched him to the playtex Drop-ins. The drop-in's seem to work great! ever since the switch he is eating all the time and is a lot less fussy. The bottle switch really made a difference in his day! With my daughter-around 7 months she decided she didn't like the Playtex Ventaire bottles anymore-and switched to Avent. every baby is different, though. Try out a few different bottles and see which one works best for your little guy. Playtex Drop-ins are great for nursing moms, too! Hope this helps!

I like the avent nipples the best. I think that the 2's are great for the in between time. It is the nipple bottle system that worked the best for us.
Good luck-

My daughter liked the Playtex nipples that went with the bottles that took drop ins. We liked the latex MUCH better than the silicone ones. I bought the slow ones and used them forever-- I never switched to fast. After she was one or one and a half I enlarged the hole using the end of a corn holder! If your son is frustrated with the slow nipples make sure the formula is flowing freely-- we used powder formula and it would sometimes get clogged. You may want to switch to liquid until this issue gets resolved. Good luck.

Have you tried sterilizing a pin and just making one more hole in the slow nipples? My son didn't like the med nipples cause they had three to four holes so we just punched one more jole in the slow nipple and it worked well for us.

I've tried 3 or so brands of bottles/nipples. My son uses the Playtex Ventaire and I have used stage one the whole time. He still uses that stage and he's 8 months old. He is breastfed with me and bottle fed with the sitter, so perhaps that is why he prefers the slower nipple. Maybe it's just a good brand. His sitter recently tried the second stage and it was too fast for him (and he's a healthy sized, good eater). If you haven't tried Ventaire, try it. Many others prefer these nipples, too.
