Book You Can't Put Down?

Can any moms recommend a book they've read that is SO engrossing that they can't put down? I have not read anything good lately!!! Some books I REALLY enjoyed: Emma and Me, Other Boleyn Girl(and Inheritance),Memoirs of a Geisha, the Kite Runner,Divinci Code, the Historian,Deceptions and Tangled Web by Judith Michael,Genuine Lies-Nora Roberts...
A friend recommended the Diana Gabaldon series but I read 2 and stopped. I felt they were so cheesy and said aloud more than once,"oh please!". I was annoyed by the main character, not charmed. On the otherhand,I enjoyed Knight in Shining Armor by Jude Deveraux IMMENSELY. It's been years since I read that one. :-)
Anyway, back to the subject. I have not read anything really good since the ones I above mentioned and am dying to read another page turner. Just finished LOve the One Your With and Accidental Mother. And although they were pleasant reads, I wouldn't necessarily call them page turners. So please recommend! Thanks! :-)

Secret Life of Bees was great and they are making a movie of it due out in the Fall. Another book also by Sue Ann Monk was the Mermaid Chair. I do not get to read much, but enjoyed both of these books.

If you liked Other Boleyn Girl, etc., I highly recommend The Queen's Fool by Philippa Gregory. It's my favorite of hers so far. Jean Plaidy wrote very similar subjects to Gregory, too and I've enjoyed many of hers (she was a very prolific writer, so there are many titles to choose from).

If you want easy but fun reads, the Twilight series is good; also the Percy Jackson series is entertaining (by Rick Riordan); The Last Apprentice series is good (although I can't read it before bed time); Harry Potter

Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants; Nanny Diaries;

I've never been one to find a book that I just can't put down, but these are definitely some of my more favorite books.

I, too, enjoyed some of the books you mentioned. Fall on Your Knees by A.M. MacDonald is the book you need to read next. You will be hooked after reading the first 4-page introduction.

Right now, I am halfway through The Falls by J.C. Oates and have not been disappointed yet.

Both can easily be found at 1/2 Price Bks.

Thanks for posting this. I hope to get more recommendations from other posters as well!

The Godfather by Mario Puzo, Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes, The Red Tent by Anita Diamant, The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan, Angels and Demons by Dan Brown are a few that come to mind. Before I had my daughter, I used to read all the time...now all I get to read are children's books ;)

You received some wonderful book recommendations. Many are "Oprah Book Club" selections. You can go to the library or use the Internet to view a list of all the other Oprah books. The best books that I have read this past year: Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides, The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett (and the sequel titled World Without End), and many of the Jodi Picoult books.
Happy Reading!

*The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Ann Monk
*The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls
One Thousand White Women: The Journals of May Dodd by Jim Fergus
Persian Pickle Club by Sandra Dallas
*The Red Tent by Anita Diamant
*Pope Joan by Donna Woolfolk Cross

I loved all these books (and I loved Kite Runner), but especially the *'s.

Looking at your past reads, I would suggest Sarah Dunant's books. She wrote The Birth of Venus and In the Company of the Courtesan. If you haven't read these, I would. The Birth of Venus was my favorite book in 2003. Before I had a baby, I used to read about 4-5 books a week to relax. Now I am lucky if I get 1 read in a month. Have fun and enjoy.

A M,
I love anything written by Nicholas Sparks....I have read all his books. I am now reading Karen Kingsbury. She tends to write in series, so make sure if you get one to look and see which series it is.
Happy reading.......

Rest of Dan Brown's series - Deception Point, Angels and Demons, Digital Fortress.

Harry Potter series by J K Rowling. My favourites are 5,6 and 7 - Order of the Phoenix, Half Blood Prince and Deathly Hollows.

If you like Da Vinci Code you might also like Holy Blood, Holy Grail. I have to admit I did not finish the book as the storyline got less thrilling and more historic. I have friends who absolutely loved the book so give it a try.

Hi A M. I just finished reading sToriTelling by Tori Spelling. You wouldn't think it, but it was actually VERY good. I read it in 2 days and I'm a full time mom so I was squeezing it in WHENEVER I could. I've read the books you mentioned and am not one to usually read "media" type books but this one came highly recommended and I couldn't agree more. I couldn't put it down. It is easy to relate too, especially if you're a mother! :-)
