Hello Ladies! I love decorating books but I'm looking specifically for on that helps you decorate with what you have. To see pretty pictures of gorgeous homes is nice but not "the real world". Does anyone know of a book that you were impressed with for it's easy to understand, practical approach? Thanks so much!

If you have the time, check out the local library. They usually have a nice section of these types of self help books...

Here's one book:
"Use What You Have Decorating : Transform Your Home in One Hour With Ten Simple Design Principles -- Using the Space You Have, the Things You Like, the Budget You Choose [Paperback]"

Or:
"Use What You Have Decorating : Transform Your Home in One Hour With Ten Simple Design Principles -- Using the Space You Have, the Things You Like, the Budget You Choose
by Lauri Ward "

Books can cost a lot of money.
An alternative is, just look online and do a Google Search. ie: "decorating your home with what you already have."

"Decorating" a home, also involves what is called "space planning." ie: how to rearrange your home, in pleasing & aesthetic arrangements that will be more useful and pleasing to the eye.

I love The New Decorating Book by Better Homes and Gardens (copyright 2007, 9th edition, editor: P Marshall). It's colorful, eclectic and accessible. It covers the basics and so much more. Happy decorating!

One of the easiest and cheapest way to change the look of anything (room or furniture) tends to be paint.
I have a book at home that shows you how to use paint or material to redress a room and pieces of furniture.
My fiance and I are in the process of redoing our home one room at a time - we go to this wonderful antique store that has tons of old furniture and are buying one piece at a time - because I do not like catalog furniture store looking rooms - I want something with my style) but if we dont like the look or color we look beyond - find what we will and can use the piece for and then paint it to work or use material and spray adhesive to attach it or metal tacks....
I will look for the book when I get home tonight and add to my post tomorrow if you are still looking for titles....
Good luck in your search -
