any ideas if this should be done in a hospital. i have one coming up in next couple of weeks but my oncologist suggested he does it in his office using local anesthesia. i was told to bring someone to drive me back home as it will hurt afterwards. he pointed to a part near my spine where he will be doing the testing.
it just doesn't sound it will be painless with local anesthesia, as i have to pick up my kids form school right after and do my thing with them until bedtime.
anyone know i should be asking for something else?
thank you moms

I had this done when I was in my early 20's. I was already in the hospital for low platelets so the dr. just did it at my bed side. It was not the most comfortable proceedure in the world but in my experience there are far worse. I think you will be fine doing it in his office if that is the doc's recommendation.
I had it done in the back upper side of my hip bone. I didn't shed a tear during the proceedure and carried on a conversation with the nurse the whole time. I was honestly a wreck after the proceedure because I wasn't mentally prepared for it. You might just want someone there for emotional support though. I don't remember any pain afterward.
Best wishes to you!

OMG first I would do it in a hospital and ask for some form of sedation.
Trust me, you need it. Afterwards you will be quite sore and certainly
not able to be running kids around. I had one done in the hospital and they
just wanted to use a local. I would not agree and they gave me something,
just can't remember what. Good luck.

Hi L.!

I had the procedure done when I was in my early 20's after a diagnosis of Hodgkins disease. I was in my oncologist's office which happened to be within the hospital. I was given a local and some ibuprofen. I hadmy mom with me for support. There was a lot of pressure a some pain but nothing that lasted after the procedure. When it was all done I felt like I had a bad nights sleep on a really bad matress. I would have someone with you to provide support and to drive you home but you should be okay with your kids.

Good luck with your procedure and any further treatments. It can be a tough road. Know there are lots of us moms out there sending you love, prayers and support.

If he said it will hurt and you need someone to drive you home, then plan on it. Either get an appt early in the morning so you can recover before picking up the kids, or ask the friend to drop you home, pick up the kids and help you with them until bedtime, so you can be free to rest. Friends love to be asked for help - if you would do this for your friend, then be gracious and allow him/her to do it for you.

I had this done 10 years ago in the doc's office. He only gave me a valium to take like 1/2 hour before the visit. It was more uncomfortable than painful ... I remember feeling pressure. Two hours after the procedure, I was on a plane to my in-laws. Good luck :-)
