Boarding Kennels

Does anyone know a good boarding kennel? I have a young dog who is very nervous and has not done well when I have left her in a kennel for the weekend. My only experiences so far were in SC, so I am looking to see if anyone has had a good experience with a local Wesley Chapel/Tampa facility.

What can I do next?

New Tampa Pet Resort, Lisa (owner), ###-###-####

They are just great! I took my pooches there and they were very well-cared for over the Memorial weekend. I was very pleased with the facility (new) and the amenities (nice pens, pools, walks, caring staff). They let my 2 dogs share a king sized villa - which helped out my nervous dog!

The kennel is in Lutz, but it's right down County Line Road from Super Target and Meadowpointe (just over I-75 and 275 on County Line Road).

Address is 3511 E. County Line Road
Lutz FL 33559

I give them 5 stars! :)

Ask at your vet clinic - they may have a client who is a pet sitter that they can recommend or a vet tech who moonlights.

What ever you do don't take your dog to Part of the Family on McIntosh Road in Seffner. Our dog came out of there covered with ticks, her nose tore open and bleeding and she puked for a week after we got her home. Be careful where you take your dog. It would be best if you could find a private sitter to either come into your home and care for it or take it into their home. Kennels are not very good. Even the more costly ones are not a good choice.

Hi H.,

The new Petsmart at tampa palms has an amazing new puppy daycare/hotel. We haven't used it yet but plan to because they are not kept in kennels the entire time and get playtime inside and out. I really like the staff also.

Check out Dogs R Us Hotel (www.DogsRUsHotel.com). They are located in a residential neighborhood in Lutz near SR54 & Suncoast Parkway. The 'hotel' is actually a house remodeled specifically to accommodate dogs - all individual rooms, not kennels or cages. A woman named Lynne Logan owns and operates it, and it is staffed with great employees 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Check out her website or call ###-###-#### or email ____@____.com for more info or a tour.
Good Luck!

Have you thought about hiring an in-home pet sitter instead of boarding? That's often best for nervous dogs, because at least they can stay in their environment where they are comfortable, have their own bed, etc. When we travel we always bring in a pet sitter, who will come typically 3x a day and walk the dogs, feed them, play with them...they do great. I would suggest if you do that you interview several and pick the one that you feel most comfortable with and that the dog seems to respond well to. Good luck.
