Bloody Noses - Peoria,AZ

Some people are more prone. If the weather is very dry or allergies, they can have bloody noses.

Then...there are other reason for bloody noses. These are much more rare and more serious, but something like low platelets can cause bloody noses.

I wish your question was more specific. How often does your child get a bloody nose for example.

All children get bloody noses from time to time. It's usually caused by the inside of the nose getting dry and the child scratching the buggers out or just scratching because it's uncomfortable. Or because they've bumped their nose. Sometimes they do when the weather is exceptionally hot and they've been playing rough. Sometimes for no reason that we know of.

If your child has a bloody nose often it may be because the blood vessels are too close to the surface. I had a bloody nose nearly everyday in the summer time. The doctor cauterized the vessels and the bloody noses stopped.

If your child has frequent bloody noses, I'd take him to the doctor. There are causes which require medical care. I don't know what they would be for a child. But my grandmother had a terrible bloody nose caused by high blood pressure. I seem to also remember my family saying that "thin" blood can cause bloody noses. I don't know what that means, tho.

Otherwise, if he gets a bloody nose every once in awhile I wouldn't be concerned. You might try lubricating inside his nose with vaseline. And depending on his age you might need to take care of buggers before he does.

One of my cousins used to get bloody noses if she sneezed hard. I'd only be concerned if your child is also bruising easily elsewhere on the body, otherwise I think some people just have really thin nasal membranes.

Pretty much what Marda P said. My brother used to get bloody noses all the time and his ped told my mom to put vasiline in his nose to stop it from drying out. It worked.
My ex used to get them all the time and he had to have the vessels cauterized (sp?)
Talk to your doctor if it's more than occasionally.

My husband had them frequently as a child and my son has them regularly as well. You can not "bleed out" through your nose. It looks like more blood than it is. Also cannot get anemia through nose bleeds. If happening, pinch nose and lean forward to keep blood out of throat and stomache. An ice pack works well too. Prevension includes humidifier in bedroom at night and vasaline in the nose every day. He has been chemically cauderized but it is painful and not permanent solution. Most of the time the cause is just blood vessels close to the surface combined with dry air.

My daughter had hers because she had a low tolerance for ANYTHING with caffeine in it - soda, chocolate, tea, etc. if she had a piece of chocolate cake, within 15 minutes, her nose would GUSH.

Her nose was cauterized soooo many times - I lost count...by the time she was 15, they had subsided.

Your child may have allergies....who knows...if they happen with frequency, then pay attention to the diet and timing. If the child complains of a headache - then it's more than that - talk to the pediatrician and get their take. Monitor the child - not just in diet, but exercise and keep a log as to WHEN then nose bleeds happen and how much...a trickle? still track it. A gusher? track it - if there is a pattern to them it might help you find out just what is causing it!

There are 10 kids in my family and all of us had bloody noses. My brothers' usually stopped them they were teenagers and started donating blood, the grils it was about puberty. One of my daughters and my son also get bloody noses. A lot of time its because the air is so dry that it dries out the nose and the bleeding starts. I wouldn't worry about it unless it was so frequent that it was causing anemia issues. He will probably grow out of it. Good luck!

My daughter has them.
She started having gushers as a baby and has had 3 cauteries over the years. It's not pleasant, but it stops the bleeding.
Her blood vessels are at the surface of her nose and if it's dry out, they are more frequent. If she has a cold, she has a tendency to get more.
Keep track of them on your calendar.

Our baby girl used to get bloody noses often. Once she even woke up with her entire face and hands covered in blood. It FREAKED me out! Her pediatrician referred us to a blood disorder specialist where she had extensive testing. They were mostly concerned about Von Willebrand’s disease. Other symptoms associated are: excessive and/or easy bleeding and excessive bruising. It would probably be best to see a specialist to give you some peace of mind – if you are at all worried. Sometimes, people are just sensitive to weather changes, allergens and changes in climate due to the sudden use of fans or air conditioners. You could try a humidifier in your child’s room at night time along with some Vaseline on the inside of the nostrils.

nope.. my boyfriend used to have random bloody noses atleast once a week and had up until a couple years ago

My son gets bloody noses all the time.
We had him checked out.
The tiny capillaries in the nose are very fragile and close to the surface of the skin.
If a child picks their nose, it can start a nose bleed.
If a child blows their nose too hard, it can start a nose bleed.
Some kids are more prone to them than others and if it happens often, you should see a doctor to rule out anything else.
My son has allergies so the meds he takes to dry things up make him more susceptible to bloody noses. When it's really cold and dry outside, he gets a bloody nose.
Sometimes, he scratches and gets a bloody nose.
He's been thoroughly checked out and it's nothing serious. He could have some of the vessels in his nostrils cauterized, but its not serious enough that it's been really recommended.
It depends on the age of the child, how frequently it happens, other factors that can cause it.
You should talk to the pediatrician to be sure. A bloody nose now and again for a child is not really cause for alarm. They can get one just bumping their nose the right way.
Ask the pediatrician and give specifics as to when and how often it happens. They are really the only ones who can tell you if it's a major concern or not.

How old is your child?
I had them ALL THE TIME when I was in 1st - 5th grade.
They finally catarized one nostril. I DON'T RECOMMEND THIS.
Um........it hurt. I ran out of the office before they could catarize the on other nostril, dealt w/the one bloody one when I ran at recess/lunch and by 6th grade.............never got another one again.
