My daughter is having a very hard time with teething. Her two bottom teeth came in w/o any problems, really no pain at all. Her two top teeth seem to pop out and then go back in. She also has been bleeding. Has anyone else experienced bleeding when their children's teeth were coming in? I called the doctor and they said it can happen but everyone else that I talk to hasn't experienced bleeding. Any insight would be appreciated. I'm starting to get concerned.
Neither of my children had bleeding while they were teething. However, if they had, I would have also been concerned. I would suggest calling Dr. Richard Morrison in Pickford, MI. He is an excellent pediatric dentist. He may even be able to give you some suggestions or advice over the phone.
Bleeding? Sure. My son had it so bad when his front teeth were coming in, that when we were at a Tiger's game, I took his paci out to give him some snacks, and there was blood all around where his paci was just at. It was quite horrifying to tell you the truth. Our doctor said some kids will have it that way, and I guess I should've known, he's a bleeder when we go to get his shots too! As long as it doesn't run for DAYS, it should be fine.
Honestly, I would call your dentist. They may advise you to bring in your daughter for a peek (and may not even charge you if everything is fine). I have never heard of teeth coming out and then being pushed back in. The slight bleeding isn't too surprising, but I have only seen it happen as a very tiny bit, not a continuous bleed.
I've been finding little bits of blood on my daughter's crib sheet--it took me a while to figure out that it was coming from her teeth. It seems to show up right when a tooth is on the brink of popping through. I thought it was weird because I have never heard of this before.
One of my kids had the same thing with his uppers. I really think it was from the bottom teeth cutting into his upper gums, since he had no other teeth yet. That may be why you see the top teeth pop in and out. Does she like to chew on cold things? That would stop the minimal bleeding quickly.
My older son had some mild bleeding when he cut some of his teeth. It turned out to be nothing to worry about. I still think it was his exsessive chewing on everything that caused it. I know what everyone is thinking, teething kids chew, but I have never seen a child chew like my older son did. He chewed the wood off his crib. If it gets worse or you want peace of mind call a dentist for their opinion. It is a mom's job to worry so second opinions won't hurt. Hang in there those teeth will come in all the way very soon.

Yes, a couple of my kids had a really tough time with teething and did experience bleeding off and on when the teeth would start to pop out, then go back in. Not fun!!! I used infant ibuprofen and baby orajel (the night-time formula is a bit stronger).
Hopefully they'll pop through soon!

C., have you tried contacting a pediatric dentist? They might have a better insight. My children went to one for years and we got different and much better advice from the second one we went to so if you're concerned seek a second opinion. K.
Mostly parents would never notice, but yes there does tend to be bleeding when the tooth breaks through the gums.
Most children swallow it without anyone ever finding out.
My son never had bleeding issue, but a lot of his cohort have. I'm sorry I don't have any recommendations for you , but I do know it is normal...if not fun.
It's common.. don't worry.. I found that giving my kids a cold, wet wash cloth to gnaw on helped immensely.

Yes from two weeks old my son had problems especailly with his top teeth. They would come down and go up and his gums would get irritated. Popsickles and wash clothes will take the redness and swelling down and they will bleed less if there not swollen.. he is now 17 months and only has 4 teeth to go and it will be all over... I can't wait.
