Bleeding While Pregnant? - Chicago,IL

I got a possitive test about a week ago although very light in color. I started to bleed and it was just as long and as heavy as a period. I figured I had a miscarriage but took a test today (a week later) and the test was possitive again. (Much darker in color.) So I'm waiting for a call back from my dr. but am wondering how "normal" this is.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all of the info/advice. It's now a week later and I have been through a ton of blood tests and had an ulta sound yesterday. We still are not sure. My levels are still going up . I think it was too early to tell anything on the ultra sound. I'm now almost 6 weeks. I have another ultra sound next week. I've already been through a miscarriage so I'm well aware this is a possibility. I just wish I would have some answers.

That happened to me too, and now I have a healthy 2 week old. The bleeding that you experience was probably just implant bleeding. Congratulations!

I'm glad you are seeing your doctor - it will definitely put your mind at ease. Ask all the questions you need to. No question at this point is stupid, and I'm fairly certain ob/gyns have seen and heard it all!

Some people have bleeding of varying degrees: spotting, light, a little heavy. Some people never bleed at all. Some people get a little bit of implantation bleed (occurring because the fertilized egg is diving into the endometrium).

If the bleeding is bright red or orange-ish tinged, then try to see your doctor right away.

I have never experienced this, but my cousin got her period until she was 5 months pregnant (and didn't know she was because of this). I hope this is the case with you, but I would try to get in to see your Dr. as soon as you can, and take it easy til then. My prayers are with you!

I have miscarried in the past and it sounds similar to your situation. But, the pregnancy hormone can still be detected in your body for a little while after a miscarriage (I don't know exactly how long, but I thought a couple of weeks) while your body adjusts. So, you really won't know for sure until you talk to your doctor. The quickest route would be to get an ultrasound done. That is how I confirmed my miscarriage. I didn't have a lot of cramping at all, but the blood was more clotty than normal. I hope that if you would like to be pregnant that you are. *Hugs*

Most likely the bleeding was the egg implanting in the uterus. It is common to experience this, however check with your dr. Do you have any other "pregnant symptoms"? ie,swollen breasts, sickness ect..

I have heard that some people can and will bleed for the first couple months, Like you are still getting your period. I think it is always good to see the Dr if you have any questions.

I have no words of encouragement for you because I just went through this and miscarried.

My doctor informed me, though, that some women spot (to varrying degreed) while the egg is implanting to the uterine wall and others spot for the whole first trimester.

Until you hear from your doctor, though, I would suggest taking it as easy as you can by relaxing (I know that's difficult to do under the circumstance) and staying off your feet as much as possible.

They had me running blood tests every 48 hours to check my hormone levels, and they may do the same with you. I wish you all the luck, but try to remember that things happen for a reason.

I experienced this with my 9 month old. I bleed/spotted throughout the first trimester. The doctor's didn't know why, but he is a healthy baby. Definately keep talking with your doctor. I am sure that I drove mine crazy with all of the phone calls, but I needed some reassurance. They did 4 ultrasounds in the first trimester to check on progress, etc. If you are bleeding and cramping, it could be a sign of miscarriage, as told to me by my doctor... However, I did and like I said my son was very healthy. Congratulations!

The question is are you cramping also? I miscarried about a month and half ago. At first I only had bleeding and mild cramping and by the next day the cramps were so much worse. I also went to the ER and my hcg level was a 4! So I would schedule an appointment asap to ease your mind and I think having a positive test a week later is a good sign, but do know that you won't know for sure until you go. I wish the best for you!
