If we're talking bleeding from the incision, then I would say 'no' and call your doctor immediately.

If we're talking vaginal bleeding, I would say 'yes' - the uterus is doing serious "spring cleaning" now that you've given birth, and the birth method (vaginal vs. c-section) has nothing to do with it. But if you're worried about it at all, call your doctor. That is, after all, what we pay those doctors the big bucks for!

Congrats on the new baby, too!

Hi R.,
I bled about a month after my c-section and also after having a hysterectomy! Seemed crazy to me, but my doctor assured me that it was normal. If you are concerned, call your doctor.
Congratulations on your new baby!

R.,

I bled off and on for 2 months after my c-section. Not at all what I expected... If it becomes extra heavy, then I would contact your doctor!

I had bleeding on and off for 3 months after my c-section. And it actually took a good 6 months for my period to get back to normal. Breast feeding plays a large factor in this. If you are nursing the abnormal bleeding will last longer due to the uterus contracting during nursing sessions.

Yes it is, I have had 2 c-sections. It is normal for it to last for 6-7 wks. It could last that long, but it might not..everybody is different:)

I bled for almost 6 weeks after my c-section. As long as you aren't gushing...you should be fine. If you are worried about it---call your doctor.

Yes. My doctor said the bleeding can continue on and off for up to six weeks. If it is heavy or too painful or doesn't stop soon, you might call your doctor.
