Hi A.,
No biting back is not a good idea. You just telling him no biting then you bite him?
I went through a long battle with my daughter and her biting. She almost got thrwon out of daycare for it.
What we did the minute he bit anyone is we made sure ther person was ok. WE made over them like they were the most important person in the world. We then got the little and told them that was not nice and they had to sit in the corner for 1 minute. Then we went right back to making over the person that got the bite. Totally not paying any attention to the one the did the biting.
Right now your child wants to communicate his feelings, but can't seem to work them into words yet. This is the main reason he is doing this.
This method we used took awhile, but did finally work.
Believe when I say I understand how upsetting it can be when your child bits.
There just seems to be little tolorance for this from anyone. Nanny 911 book might also give you a couple of ideas on how to handle this. I got her book and I use it for a many ideas.

I have no advice, but I can say, do not bite him back.
Remember that two wrongs don't make a right, and that that's just going to teach him another bad habit.

Try alum. I just wrote about it on a previous post. Its a pickling spice and not "hot" like pepper. Its very tart. Its in the spice section of the grocery store.
Good luck

I know it's awful to say but I had a son that bit until he was 18 months old and when he caught me off guard one day (which brought tears to my eyes) I bit him back and he wasn't laughing. It was the last time he ever bit. Your son isn't getting the message so you must not be getting the point acrossed that it hurts to be bitten. Better you make the point than the cats defending themselves. Biting him back will hurt but the pain won't last that long but he'll know the next time he goes to bite someone that it isn't worth it. Sounds cruel but so is being bitten

A.,
My son was a biter to when he was in Day Care he bite certain kids. They would just put him in time out as soon as he would do it. Tell him biting hurts. Then give the attention to the one who had been bitten and let the child see the marks. Do not bite them back. Then they thinks it is ok to bite. I hope this helps you.

When my little ones went throught this I tried everything under the sun to get them to stop but nothing was working and the sitter was ready to make me find another sitter because other parents were upset that my children were bitting there kids and I understood because I would feel the same way. Mine are 3 and almost 4 so I went through the same problem twice. Finally I did bite back. Heres what I did. When they would bite I would bite back not to hard just enough to let them no that that is how it feels. Then I would sit down and tell them that when they do that it hurts and people don't like it. I said I was sorry for bitting them but I wanted to show how it felt. After that neither child ever did it again. I think if you explain to the child why you did it to them then they won't be confused as to why they can't do it. Good luck

Hello A.. I may be way off of base here, but my children only bit when they were having trouble teething. Maybe your little one is getting a tooth in that is hurting. I would try giving him a teether. And my seven month old bites the cat also, thankfully the cat doesn't mind. Best of luck.
