Does anyone have any ideas for a 6 year old boy? I have 2 girls so Im not sure what to buy. I was thinking books because his parents would like some more educational things around the house. Is there a good series of books that a 6 yr old would like? I know he is just learning to read but his parents want to start reading to him more and eventually have him do the reading. Thanks

What can I do next?

how about board games??: trouble, connect four, guess who, monopoly jr, uno games, hyper dash (not a board game, but is high energy game)...these are kind of the next step up from preschool games. my 6 yr old loves them...

Well, having two boys (ages 7 and 3.5) I have lots of suggestions!

For books- Junie B Jones series, Magic Schoolbus Series, Magic Treehouse series, Diary of a Wimpy kid, Roscoe Riley Rules.... these are all books my 7yr old has enjoyed reading by himself for the last 2yrs. If the parents are ok with 'bathroom' humor, Captain Underpants is really funny too.

Toys... my boys never got into lego's. We have some but they never play with them. They like Lincoln Logs, wooden blocks, trains, tractors, and cars. Hot Wheels sets are big around here and are really cheap, but well made.

6yr old boys also dig scooters (you can get a really nice one at Target for $20!), toys for playing at the pool/beach, DVD's like Scooby Doo, Tom and Jerry, Thomas, etc. Art stuff is always a big hit too.

My 6yo loves Transformers, Bakugan Battle Brawlers, Legos, Magic School Bus, anything to do with a super hero, drawing and painting, Tinker Toys, dress-up (pirates, ninjas, super heroes, Indiana Jones, etc.). He also enjoys books about Flat Stanley, Spiderman, Scooby Doo, and any of the toys I mentioned (there are lots of story books about the action figure characters). Games are always a big hit.

Hi B.,

I agree with the other responses. ANY open ended construction product. Even a snap together model. How much to you know about him? Is he into sports? Animals? Those topics may help you find beginner readers. Children can always be read to by parents at a higher level than they can read themselves, opening up their curiosity. As a Discovery Toys Educational Consultant for 12+ years, I can safely say open ended building products!

I agree with the lego suggestion! My son, who is nearly six, LOVES them! It does inspire creativity as well as teaches to follow directions. My son can build literally anything out of legos. It's fun to watch!
Best of all, you can find legos in every price range.
