Birthday Party for a Cat

Don't laugh. My daughter's kitten will be a year old in a couple of weeks and she wants to throw a birthday party. So we are going to invite a few of her friends over and have a party. I'm going to serve baked fish sticks and fries with green beans and make a kitty litter cake for the adults that will be there and cupcakes for the kids. My daughter wants to do a craft and play a game but I'm not sure what to do. I'm going to do this as simply (cheaply) as possible- we're having it at the house and I have crepe paper and other decorations left over from previous parties. I would like to go whatever game(s) we do outside in our yard. I can't think of anything cat themed. Anyone have any ideas?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I love the ideas! They all sound so fun! I am definitely going to paint whiskers on their faces! A mouse hunt sounds like a purrfect (LOL) outdoor game! I love the pin the tail on the cat and bobbing for fish and the craft ideas! This is going to be fun!
After far as cost- it's only going to be 4 guests (from two families we are good friends with) and my daughter and we already have decorations left over from past parties and we already have the food- that's why we decided on what we decided on to serve. I have poster board and plastic eggs so we can do the games suggested. We made the invitations out of scrapbook paper my mom gave my daughter and hand delivered them to the two families. The only things I would have to buy are party hats (my daughter really wants party hats) and some type of goody bags (which I have some stuff left over from my daughter's birthday party and she wants to add treats for the guests' pets) both of which I can get from the dollar store. The money out put is going to be probably $10 (I also have to get cupcake liners and tootsie rolls for the, ahem, leavings).
Oh and a kitty litter cake? So fun- looks a little gross though. This is a kitty litter cake http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/kitty-litter-cake/detail.aspx I'm not doing it in a litter pan though- my husband wouldn't be able to handle it! LOL

Party was today. It was AWESOME!!! The girls ran around and played outside while I made lunch and then we had a picnic outside under the big tree. Then we came inside and sang happy birthday to the cat and my daughter blew out a candle. While the girls ate their cupcakes Princess the cat ate her special canned food (which she only gets on special occasions). Then I painted the girls nails and added little nail stickers I had here. Then they all played Barbies together for a while and then we went outside and played tag and hide and seek. SUPER fun and my little girl was so, so happy. I'm so glad I did this for her. We decorated the kitchen with a pink tablecloth and Happy birthday sign and balloons- all of which we had here. I spent under $15 for food and everything and my daughter had a great time that she'll remember for a long time! Thanks again for all the ideas ladies!

The kids' cupcakes can easily be made into cat faces! Two green M&Ms for the eyes; one brown one for the nose; get a small tube of black gel decorator icing (grocery store has this) to make the lines under the nose for the mouth and to put on whiskers. Ears can be cut out of fruit leathers and poked into the cupcakes sticking up and out a bit. I wouldn't worry much about funky colors either -- if the ears are red and the eyes blue and the nose pink, little kids won't care!
I second "pin the tail on the cat."
This is a sweet idea and I disagree with the person who said it was somethiing you should not do. It shows kids that you can be fun and flexible and goofy sometimes!

Wow, I think I'd remind my kid that CATS do not care about birthdays and save the money for something more deserving! Sort of a valuable lesson in frivelous spending.

Give the kids a face painting to look like cats. Really easily done with your make up.

Awe, we used to have b-day parties for our pets too! It's mostly just a reason for friends and family to get together to have fun.

some cute ideas here:

They can make cats out of playdough or pipecleaners and puff ball, sequins, little gems and have a 'cat show'. Assign winners based on fun categories like, fanciest, most colorful, meanest looking, daintiest, fluffiest, biggest.... You can get cute little ribbons and award the winners the ribbons.

You can get a cheap ball and wrap yarn around it like a kitty ball. Then the kids can do a little obstacle course in the yard chasing the kitty ball. Would be hilarious if they wore felt ears and facepainted whiskers on.

Plant grass seed in containers, make cat toys out of felt and stuff them with catnip, tie feathers together at the end of a string and tie the other end to a dowel, make cat masks.

Games are harder - pin the tail on the cat, draw a mouse face and ears on plastic Easter eggs and have a mouse hunt?

That's AWESOME she wants to do that. I celebrate Rick Springfield's birthday (August 23rd) with cupcakes every year so why NOT celebrate a cat?!

We may just have a party for our cat since my son loves nothing more than a birthday party and steal these ideas!

Oh my gosh. I just found this silly game when looking for games to play at my daughter's birthday party. It sounds purr-fect for your fete!:

Poor Kitty Guessing Game
1. Arrange the kids in a large circle.

2. Decide who will be the first to be in the middle of the circle.

3. Place a blindfold on the player going first. Have the first player sit in the center of the circle.

4. Instruct players in the circle to switch around quietly so that the player in the center is unaware where each player is. Have all the kids in the circle sit down.

5. Have the player in the middle approach someone in the circle. When the center person touches this person, the player that is touched says "Poor kitty" while disguising their voice, then meows.

6. Identify the player meowing player if you are the person in the center of the circle. If you are successful, switch places with the person you identified. If not, try again by picking a new person to identify.

7. Keep playing until everyone has had a turn in the middle of the circle.

Happy Birthday, Kitty!!
