My daughter (my baby) UGH!! will be 13 in July (i know its a while away) and I am wanting to do something special for her, so I thought I would ask all of yall's opinions (ya'll always have great advice) My daughter is the only child, she is very "frilly" and girly girl, doesn't like to get dirty, she likes to sing and dance! I'm just wondering if any of you might have some ideas. We have a swimming pool and ALWAYS have a swimming party for her, but I was wanting to do something different this year. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi B.,

What about a slumber party.. Girls love this.. You can get each girl one of those feather things?? I cant think of the word well its like a scarf and you some time find them at the dollar store or like a craft store you can even get the stuff for each girl to make a purse.. The girls can fix hair, put make up on, paint nails, eat candy, popcorn and pizza and watch movies.. Just hang out and you will see they will have a blast.. You can maybe have a birthday party so boys can be there but the girls stay and spend the night.. You can even rent a room at a hotel we did that one year and the girls loved it.. The best thing to do is have stuff planed to keep them busy. Well I hope this will give you some ideas..
Good Luck! J.

The tea party might work, but not so sure she would like that at 13, Maybe have the party at a tea room, they might feel more grow up. That way you don't have to clean up the mess either. Have fun. G.

We had a swimming party for my baby when she turned 13 last year. She also went to a dance/eat party at the Iron Cactus for a 13th and another single dad rented a limo and took a batch of girls to have manis and pedis.....my daughter loved both parties.........

What about a fancy tea party? Get out your good china & linens. Have all the girls come in their Sunday best. Maybe make it a mother & daughter tea party and invite just a few of her favorite friends. If the weather was nice you could do it outside by the pool. Even move the an indoor table into the yard & set it up there with pretty table linens. She would feel very grown up & celebrated. You could do a fancy box of tea packaged with a nice tea cup (check estate sales!) for the party favors.

all the best,

L. - mother of 3 wonderful girls ages 8.6. & almost 4.

I have a daughter who is turning 13 in March & my stepdaughter who I have adopted is also turning 13 in June. These are ideas we have thrown around:

1. spa party with a few girl friends ...there is a Seventeen Spa up in Plano but it is really expensive.. I have seen other local spas that have packages for a lot less money...or you could do one at home!
2. limo to the mall for lunch & some shopping
3. karaoke party at a restaurant
4. We have also thought about having a sleepover at Great Wolfe Lodge in Grapevine.. it is new & a night at the hotel includes passes to their indoor waterpark. They have rooms that hold up to 8 I believe.
5. hotel slumber party (we did this last year at the Embassy Suites in Irving..they have a slumber party package which was about $150 but it includes a 2 room suite (sleeps 6), a pay per view movie, an hour of video game play, pizza & soft drinks, breakfast buffet (lots of food), managers reception which served popcorn, nachos & sodas in the evening, indoor swimming pool, hot tub & sauna) The girls had a blast. The only downside was that she could only invite a few girls..
Last year for my stepdaughter's bday, we bought 2 family passes to Bahama Beach waterpark in Dallas (so that got in 8 people) it included a lunch ticket for each of us.. The waterpark is fairly so parents can sit in a central location, sunbathe & still see the what the kids are doing for the most part. The kids had a great time & the family passes are reasonably priced.
6. We did Libby Lu when my daughter was turning 10, but even though my girls would still love it at 13, a lot of the girls were outgrowing some of the Libby Lu outfits at 10-11, so I don't know that they would fit 13 year olds at all. I haven't heard of those other 2 places mentioned, but I am going to check into them!!
7. One more! I see that you are in Seagoville. There is a drive in movie theater not too terribly far from you in Garrett, TX (Ennis) A lot of kids have never been to a drive in so it is a big thrill for them. I think my daughter has decided on a sleepover, going to the drive in that night, then going to the mall with friends the next day. They think they are old enough to walk around the mall by themselves but I will be right on their trail.. ha ha

Edited to add: I looked at the website for Girlfriends in Mesquite that someone had mentioned... that looks so neat!!
