Birthday Party for 4 Yr Old Girl with Broken Arm in McKinney

On the very day I called to rent a water slide for my daughter's 4th birthday party, she fell and broke her arm. Now, I'm at a loss about her party - no water, no jumping, no sliding, no swings, no running, ect. Any dress-up clothes would have to fit over her cast. Her birthday party is Sept. 13th. Does anyone have any ideas for a discouraged little 4 year old girl with a broken arm? We're in McKinney.

If you want to do an art type of party someplace other than at home- Joy of Pottery in McKinney is pretty neat.

Or what about Build a Bear? It rained for my DD's party last year so we had to cancel the bounce house last minute. Instead of going to build a bear, we got the bear kits from Michaels and did it at home. Each kit came with 2 bears and clothes. It was so much fun!!

C., I love all the party ideas below but just a note. My now 3 year old little girl broke her wrist 4 weeks before her 2nd birthday party. She had a cast and a sling on her entire arm. She went to another little girls birthday party that had water "sports" and she participated in everything. We just got one of those plastic air tight arm wraps for casts to keep the water out. She was fine and litterally did everything all of the other kids did. It's amazing how quickly they adapt to stuff like this. My daughter didn't want her cast off the day they had to remove it. It actually became a part of her and she didn't mind it at all. Good Luck!!!

I did not read all the request so I am not sure if anyone has ever recommended this to you. I also do not know the entire situation so please forgive me. As far as the water, they now make waterproof casts so in the future talk to your ortho about this. I know that team orthodics in McKinney do this and Apral is wonderful. Another great place is piper pizza in McKinney. They have a lot of video games for the kids to play. Depending on your budget Libby Lu or build a bear is also a great idea. they do their makup, hair and nails at Libby Lu. Or to cut costs you could do it yourself at your house. If it is a coed party build a bear is better. And yes boys like that stuff too. I had a friend that did a carnival style luau. She had different booths like face painting, balloon animals, a craft table, a pool with rubber ducks and you get a prize. You could do something like this and get cotton candy, snow cones (rival makes a great snowcone maker, but if you have a magic bullet it can chop ice too) Then she has lots to choose from. My friend ordered all her stuff from oriental trading company, but since you do not have a lot of time I am not sure you can order from them. Good luck.

I'm so sorry she broke her arm!! :( Don't know what you did last year but tea parties are always fun and there are places that have themes...like a circus??? I can't think of one in McKinney but know there is one is Plano and in Richardson....if you don't want to do a party at your home with the crafts and manicures. I just know it's a lot easier to do a party somewhere else other than home! Into My Garden at www.intomygarden.com is the one is Plano and Chocolate Angel at http://www.chocolateangel.com/ is the one in Richardson. Hope this helps turn that disappointment into excitement! :) Good luck!

I'm in agreement with the art party. Maybe even the kids can decorate her cast at the end of the day!

The Young Chefs Academy has birthday packages if she likes to cook. http://www.youngchefsacademy.com/ You could have a party at home and hire someone to paint faces or make balloon animals. I used Plano Party Animals one year for my daughter's birthday and they did a good job. Good luck!

We had our daughter's birthday at Confectionately Yours, in Frisco. She had a broken wrist, and this was still a great party. The kids made 5 different things, from a candy pizza to bark. She had a lot of fun.

btw- Good luck with the broken arm. We were just okayed for full activity.

I'm sorry that your daughter broke her arm! On the bright side, kids are amazingly resiliant and with her party 2 weeks away I'm guessing that she'll be just fine. Yes, she'll have a cast but can still be very active. I love the idea about having an art party. There are tons of crafts that are easy to do..foamy princess tiaras, door hangers, watercolors. You could set up different stations and have the kids rotate. My daughter went to a party at Walls Of Clay in downtown mckinney and had a ball! you could also do a luau...hula skirts, dancing, slushy drinks in coconut cups with straws, make your own flip flops, decorate a beach tote (on sale right now at Michaels). I think that ya'll will still have an awesome time and just think...you can look forward to a water slide next year:-} Happy birthday!

If you don't want to have the party at home, there are several good places around McKinney - Walls of Clay for an art party, Girly Girls on the square for dress-up (I'm sure she could get her cast through the "flapper" dress) and a great hair do, etc. Good luck! I'm sure your daughter will love whatever you pick.

This may be a thought...I have boys, so not sure what age is best...BUT, I have a friend who does these parties and loves it. I know they come to your house, so that could be an option. Not sure at all what pricing is, but it might be worth checking out!
Maybe they could even put a "cast" on an animal for her!!!

It would be a bit of a drive, but Slappy's Playhouse in the Galleria is really a fun location for the kids & there is enough "adult" in the plays to make them entertaining for the "big kids" too. If that's too far, check for local children's theater events.

I wonder if the doctor or nurse practitioner can recommend some ideas. I'd like to think they run into this a lot and may be of some help. Maybe you could have a mini-carnival? Games, face painting, prizes, stuff you don't need to be super active to do? Also google some of the women's magazines - womens day, parenting, etc. to see if they have birthday party ideas - I'm sure there's something in there that doesn't require TONS of planning. Good luck and so sorry for your little girl.

Hello C.,

I'm not sure if you are still planning a party, but if you plan to be in the Plano area anytime soon, I can meet you and paint the birthday girls face. I hate that she has to miss out on the fun of her birthday, my little one will be five this Thursday. I am a professional face painter and would love to brighten her day! If you would like to see my work visit PaintedStyle.com

Just give me at least 24 hour notice and we can meet at a McDonald's or something.

What about a daytime pajama party? Have the kids wear their pjs, get the other mommies to help you paint nails & do hair, watch a video?

Someone recommended Cathy's Critters to me for a petting zoo for our birthday party-- I am still waiting to hear back from them. The Creature Teacher is also supposed to be very good- more of an informative program where the kids sit and listen and pass around animals to touch?

Face painting or magic shows are also very "still". You could go to Build A Bear?

Good luck-- hope your little girl feels better soon!

You will be surprised how much she can still do. My daughter also broker her elbow at age 4 last fall. She had a cast on for 6 weeks that didn't allow her to bend it. Don't rule out the dress up party completely! We had a Halloween party during that time and she was able to dress up just fine. Most dress up outfits are not long sleeved - or you can just make sure the ones you pick are not. She did great and still had fun with the other kids. You'll have to be creative on this one, but dress up is definitely do-able.

Good luck!
