Birthday Gift for Office Assistant

Looking for ideas for birthday gifts for my office assistant. I am not sure what she likes other than horses. I do know she is a new grandma! Also, when other assistant's in the office have a birthday, but their bosses don't get them anything, would it be appropriate for me to get them something? I just feel so bad that my assistant gets gifts and some of the others don't! They all sit together so it is too hard to keep the gift for my assistant a secret. I just worry how expensive it will get to start buying for everyone, and then what if I forget one?

Thanks!

What can I do next?

Your only concern is YOUR assistant ! and you Dont even really have to do that ! Its VERY VERY kind of you do so though :-) show her know you Care and she's just not your 'slave' LOL If you see a Starbucks coffee on her desk every morning, then a GC for that would be Greatly Appreciated. Not having to dish $ out of your own pocket for a latte makes it taste So Much Better ! LOL or if you know where she gets her mani/pedis done. Its something small you could give her in a card, and no one would be the wiser. Unless she runs off and tell the other girls, but I doubt that would be the case! Again, its Very Thoughtful of you to do :-) You seem like you would be a great person to work for!

Bosses at my work just take their employees out to lunch.

Or maybe a small picture frame, or a digital one for her desk to put pics of her grandbaby in.

I would say a gift card or flowers would be appropriate, or maybe a nice picture frame for her new grandbaby's picture on her desk.

How sweet you are! I think only get for your assistant. Don't feel guilty, maybe their boss will get them something when they hear you got your assistant something. As an assistant, I know it's great to feel appreciated by my boss. I don't expect anything but if I do get something it's very nice. I think a gift card would be nice, not sure how much you want to spend, I know I've received chocolates before, at Christmas time, one of my previous bosses gave me a crystal vase, it was beautiful and big. I had a few bosses that would take me out for lunch to a really nice restaurant, that was usually during secretary's day.
I think you are a great boss and she'd appreciate anything you did for her.

No do not buy for everyone. It happens all the time (the disparity). It sucks for them but it is not your responsibility. I buy my assistant gift certificates to Macy's for Christmas and her birthday and we also take her out to lunch for her birthday. (Mine is a single mom and I figure this way she can use the giftcards for herself to get something nice -- which she often does as her purse is nicer than any I have ever owned -- or spend it on her daughter if she comes up short at Christmas). Some others do dunkin donuts gift cards, Starbucks, cash gifts, scarves, flowers, and well, some get nadda! Good luck picking out something that she will like -- but save your $$s and DO NOT start buying things for everyone. If you want, bake treats for the people that get ignored and allow them to pass them around at work. I do that :) Mine are yummy so they are in high demand! ha!

Tuck a giftcard to a restaurant in a nice card that talks about how much you appreciate all her help.

I don't think you need to compensate for others who don't gift their assistant. But I would gift YOUR assistant in a non-flashy way, so it doesn't rub in the others' faces.

Whatever you get her doesn't have to be super personal. Just an acknowledgement will be nice. A card with a restaurant gift card would probably go over fantastically! Or a card with a Starbucks card (if she is into that). Something along those lines... a gesture, but not too personal or over the top. Take her out to lunch, maybe?

Keep it on the down-low by giving her a card with a gift card in it: Starbucks, gas card, etc.

I don't think that you need to buy gifts for everyone. or ANYONE for that matter. If you choose to give your assistant a gift, that is very gracious. If you are worried about the others, maybe you could just get her a card with a gift card in it instead of an actual "present".

Or another option would be to just get the other girls a card and a small gift card for $5 to Starbucks, or Jamba Juice or something like that. But you can give YOUR assistant a gift card for more $, or for something totally different like a mani/pedi or a dinner out, or a spa day? I am not really sure how much you spend, but those are some options for you to think about!

You sound like a great boss ~ would you like a new assistant? I can relocate.... LOL - J/K, I have a great job and a great boss too....... :0)

How about a giftcard for coffee, a store or a restaurant.

I think it's very nice and appropriate. It's not your (or her) issue if the other assts don't get gifts and it is no reflection on you. If you want to do something nice one day, bring in donuts or bagels for all.

I think that a gift card is always great. Does she like coffee - how about a Starbucks or Dunkin card. Barnes and Noble? A plain old Amex card? A restaurant gift card? I don't know how much you plan to spend.

A photo album would be nice or a picture frame for her desk for the new grandchild.

I'm sure that whatever you get will be appreicated.
