Birthday Gift for 1 Year Old

My little girl's BFF turns one a week before she does. I would like to get a really nice gift for her. Her mom loves girly stuff (she has a 4-year-old boy!), so something along those lines would be fine. I'd like to spend less than $50.
We are in New York, in Manhattan, if that matters.
Thanks!
S.

Well, it's not very girly but anyone I've ever given the BRIO wooden blocks to loves them and plays with them for YEARS! I prefer the natural to the painted blocks. They will spend a fair amount of time in the little one's mouth. :)

Good luck, S.!

These are very cool "blocks". My kids have them and love them. I am buying them for my neice's 1st birthday! They are called wedigts - google them or look on Targe's website. They even sell them in pink and purple!

You can buy her a really cute outfit for spring time or a really nice doll that she can cherish. I always end up buying clothes for my godson because I feel like he will get more use out of clothes than a toy he might throw away after 2 months...

You can't go wrong with books. But it should be the hardcover books appropriate for her age because I am sure she will chew on them. My girls always liked the picture books they were given and we would practice with them pointing out what everything was. They have fun with them and they learn from them too.

if you want a gift that is going to be something she will get a lot of use out of get her a savings bond ($25 at purchase and when it matures it will be worth $50) you can do that and get a book she loves. maybe angelina ballarina or fancy nancy or something like that. the little girl may not understand the whole savings bond thing now but when she is 16 and wanting to buy a car or go to college etc she will love them

You could get a cutesy summer outfit/dress and then use the rest for a savings bond. :)) You can never start too early for college etc. And besides other than pictures, the little girl will NEVER remember her first birthday, right? Books are a GREAT idea too, i agree with the other mom about boardbooks etc. Have fun at the birthday party!

Good basics are perfect. Blocks, a tiny tikes slide, a scooter that she can scoot with .
