My daughter turns 6 in a couple weeks and I'd like to give her something to bring to her Kindergarden class to celebrate. There are 30 kids, we have nut alergies in the class, and any food has to be store bought. I'd prefer not to bring junk food or cupcakes and I think even a small goodie-bag would get expensive. Any ideas?
Well I think bringing in food is a bad idea because you don't know if there are children with other allergies or children with diabetes in her class. Get them pencils super heroes for the boys princess for the girls if you really want to bring something in but we don't. I think birthdays should be celebrated at home.
School's have so many unnecessary regulations these days, I would skip the school thing and give your little one and old fashion "home birthday" party. You can invite who you want and will/should know about any allergies in advance. You can make the kind of food SHE and your family like.
I like the number of guests is the same as the age of the child.

send bookmarks for each of the kids with a rice crispy treat attached. your daughter can make the bookmarks. have them laminated and wala you have something useful that will not go into a landfil
wanted to mention bringing in goodie bags to school is really not a good precedent to start. not all kids can afford to do that and the teacher really doesn't have time to mess with it. a birthday treat needs to be something just handed out at the end of the day and done.
My kid got a whistle once from another kid in his class. The teacher (and parents) hated them BUT the kids absolutely loved them! I'm sure you can get 4/$1 at a party supply store.
Keep it simple - pencils, erasers, book marks, stickers. One per child, no need for a whole goodie bag.
What I have done for my children (and they request it) is make fruit kabobs out of fancy straws ($1.00 store.) I anchor each one with a grape at the top and bottom then add fruit of choice. Then put them in treat bags and tie them up with a ribbon that I curled. The kids and teachers love it. If you have small cookie cutters you can make shapes out of the fruit.

At our school the kids aren't supposed to bring things in, but it sometimes happens. What they are allowed and encouraged to do is bring a new copy of one of their favorite books for the class or school library.
I have thought about this. I think for my daughters 7th birthday, I am going to makes cookies on a stick, make them look like lollipops. And I am going to individually wrap them, and tie a bow on the stick. Maybe even a tag that says thank you for sharing my special day with me, Love Julia! This way, its fresh, and if the teacher decides to just send them home inside the kids backpacks, they can enjoy it once their home.
Kids love the cupcakes. (When my daughter has brought decorated cookies, all the kids ask where the cupcakes are!)
But you could also do donuts...and bring for the morning snack. Pink donuts! and Sunny Delights. Different, unique, and well-liked. (And easy/ inexpensive.)
Party stores and The Dollar Tree have inexpensive toys just for such occasions. some come on cards of 4 or 6. I suggest that kids that age will enjoy getting something small, such as an eraser, a tiny mirror, stickers.
What about muffins? Pencils? Bookmarks?
What about muffins or a fruit tray.
