Bikini Wax--Yay or Nay

So I am going on a cruise this year for the first time. I really really hate shaving the bikini area but I do it keep it under control.

What do you all think about bikini waxes? How long do they last? Is it better to do them after the dreaded period and how long after?

I absolutely will not do a Brazilian wax. I will admit that I'm a little scared of it.

What can I do next?

I had a terrible experience at a reputable spa and vowed to never do it again and I haven't. The pain was horrible (I took ibuprofin beforehand, too) and I'm no pain ninny (I even had a drug-free birth). I also ended up with blood blisters on my bikini line, pretty much the antithesis of the look I wanted on my beach vacation.

I've since had the area lasered. Results = Best thing EVER.

You'll have red bumps for a few days and it'll be itchy, so don't do it right before you leave. It lasts about 3 weeks before growing back and having stubbies.

Take your bathing suit or your favorite underwear or thong with you so that she has something to go by.

I did this a few times and decided to try laser hair removal. It's permanent and in the long run, costs less than continuing to wax.

The nice thing about waxing is that you figure out what you like so that if you do decide to make it permanent, you have a "template".

I don't blame you for not doing a Brazillian. I like looking like a woman instead of a girl!

Yes, I would do it.

Having said that, i would do a trial run now way before your trip.

Why? Because I had one done & was allergic to the wax.
I had a reaction and let me tell you.....it wasn't pretty. ha ha

So just do it and if you can do a trial one now then again closer till.....great.

If you don't have enough time to do a trial run, I say get the wax done.
Just give yourself a few days to recoup before you go if you get some bumps.

Absolutely do it. It hurts, yes, but the pain lasts only a few seconds and then you don't have to worry about shaving for weeks. Get it done a few days before your cruise. If you do it too early, you'll have slight regrowth during the cruise. And also... the Brazilian part actually hurts less than the regular bikini waxing part. I went for a Brazilian for the first time this year and was really surprised how not horrible it was.

Get it done 2-3 days before your cruise and it will last 3-4ish weeks. You can get it done after your period...but not right before.
Relax and you will not bruise.

PS...What's scary about a brazillian. It doesn't hurt any more than a bikini wax and it's just hair.. it will grow back if you don't like it.

I did a little research myself-- apparently skin can be more sensitive to the pain of waxing from 5 days before to 5 days after your period. That said, some waxers will do this service while you are on your cycle, so check with them before scheduling as to what their cancellation policies are. Some are fine with it (waxing while you are having your period) and will expect you to pay the cancellation fee.

Have fun on your trip!

Yay!

I do my own at home, but I wouldn't recommend that if you are new to waxing. I just did mine yesterday for our trip starting tomorrow. I'll be spending the week by the pool not worrying about stray hairs.

Some women get a burst of hair growth around the time of their period, so just after that would be good... but really just a day before your go on your cruise would be fine regardless of the dreaded period :-P

You may want to get one NOW, and then do a second one just before the trip as pp suggest. If you go that route, make sure that you have three weeks or so to let it grow back in to be waxed again, or you'll end up on your trip with little hairs that were too short to wax off properly.

Bikini wax is the only way to go for me. I get terrible rashes from shaving, and there is no way I would go natural! Usually I am good for 3-4 weeks after a wax. I have been using an epilator for about a year now, but I do still like to get the occasional wax.

Get it done. The first one I had I bruised terribly though. Not sure if it is because I have fair skin or not but I would get it done weeks prior. The second time you do it will be so much easier than the first.

My friend makes a living waxing people. I am shocked by the number of people who actually get waxed while they have their period:0

If possible, get one way in advance so you can see how you will react and if you will bruise. A regular old bikini wax is no big deal and you should have no problems. It will last 4-6 weeks and if any hairs grown in sooner, you can pluck them. A Brazilian hurts. Certain areas hurt way more than others and it really is not neccesary. Back to the bikini wax. When it is time to get it before the cruise, get it 3-4 days before the cruise just in case you bruise or have a problem. Then enjoy your non-furry self.

1. Trim.
2. Don't do it 5 days before or after your period, I got blood blisters once, it was NOT pretty.
3. Yes to a trial run now and then again right before you go.
4. Trim again.

Honestly, unfortunately the more regularly you wax any part of your body, the less painful it becomes and longer they last. So the first time is always the worst pain.

Research online and find a highly recommended place in your area, not just the "fanciest" place. My lady is awesome and she runs a tiny little place and her prices are great. (The type of wax matters as much as technique etc.)

If you do it, make sure NOT to do it RIGHT before a long flight since sitting for long periods right after can intensify redness/bumps. Give your travel itinerary to your wax lady and as when she recommends you do it (another way to test their expertise ;).

Have fun on the cruise!

I like to get them a couple of months prior and right before. You won't have to shave the whole trip, which is awesome! Take an ibuprofen before you go and don't get it done the week of your period. You will be more sensitive! Not having to shave will be worth it! Have fun on your cruise!

I agree with what everyone here says. I would get a bikini now to see how your body reacts, and if then a few days before the trip, get it done again. I started waxing my legs and bikini about a year ago and LOVE IT! I don't have to do the tops of my legs anymore and get the bikini and legs waxed around every 6 weeks or so.

Enjoy your trip!!
