We are getting ready to welcome baby #2 and are trying to figure out something sweet that the baby can give to our DD (17mo) upon his/her arrival. We were thinking either a feeding set or changing set that goes with the Baby Stella DD already has. But I am open to a board book, something hand-made (the cheaper, the better) or any other ideas you mama's might have. Thanks!

What can I do next?

You could do a snuggly new blanket with her name sewn on one end (or a corner...) Make a matching one for baby #2. :)

I found a ribbon (like an award ribbon) at the dollar store that said #1 Big Sister, I gave it to my oldest when her baby sister was born. She wore it to preschool adn was so proud! When my 3rd baby was born I couldn't find the same thing, but I found some award ribbons that were blue with a baby foot print on them and I gave those to my girls when their brother was born. I also gave them a couple of cheapm, fun little things over the forst couple of weeks, I hid them in strategic places and when my girsl felt bored or neglected I directed them where to go to findsomething fun to play with! I also got them some yummy snakcs and put them where the girsl could get to tehm easily since I was too busy to prepare food for them as often. My oldest was big enough to fix cold cereal and sandwiches this time around, which really helped! Good luck, I hope your little girl enjoys being a big sister!

We got our daughter a big sister t-shirt. My mom got us balloons but my daughter got the most enjoyment out of them. They are 24 mo apart.

I don't know if you have a portable DVD player, but when I had baby #2, we had the baby give my son a new DVD that he wanted. Then we had the player ready to go in the hospital room so that we could all watch it together. He loved that the baby already wanted to spend time with him and it made sure that he didn't feel excluded from everything during what could have been a very confusing time right at the beginning.

I got my daughter some bottles that she could feed her dolls while I was feeding the baby. She was happy with them, but never played with dolls so much so they ended up feeding her stuffed animals. She's 8 now and still plays with them occasionally.
