What works better than Tylenol? I have Extra Strength Gel Caps, but they do NOTHING for me. What do you use for headaches? (It is not a migraine--I've never had one of those.)

I use exedrine migrane. My headaches are not migranes either but that is the only thing that works for me. I don't know why.

I've had some doozies of headaches recently, and I didn't want to keep pumping paracetemol or ibuprofen into me. I found extra-strength soluble aspirins, and they did the trick. Remember to drink plenty of water. Dehydration is a big culprit of headaches.

I am not Tylenol fan. ADVIL is what I use. If I have a bad headache I will take 3 otherwise 2 does the trick.
Once when I had a Terrible headache - my friend suggested drinking a glass of Coke.( for the caffiene.) It worked! But after looking it up online I read that it worked since I never drink Caffiene. So if you regularly drink it - it probably won't work for you.
But if you are pregnant then Tylenol is the only thing I would take.
Good Luck!

It depends partly on the type of headache, but I often get relief from an "ear pull." I spend 5-10 minutes relaxing against a head rest and pressing, pulling, and squeezing all the tender places in my ears, and on my head around my ears, especially pulse-points that you can feel on your scalp.

It's even better if you can find someone else with good fingers to do it for you.

I've had it completely vanquish headaches, using no painkillers at all. And have taught quite a few happy people how to do this for themselves and others.

Hope you find some relief. Headaches are a pain.

I will chime in with "It depends on the type of headache." But here are some options:
Run your hands under warm-hot water. (Opens the blood vessels in the extremities and relieves pressure in the head.)
Hydrate! The majority of headaches are caused by some level of dehydration. Water and energy drinks.
If the hands in water doesn't do it for you, take a shower. My husband sometimes uses Shower Soothers which release menthol and dissolve in the shower.
I used to take a prescription medicine that included instructions after taking the pill to "Lay down in a cool dark place for a couple of hours." Well, gee! If I could do that, I wouldn't need the pill!

Good luck to you. I hope the headache is gone by the time you read this, but you can file the info away for another time. :-)

I get headaches often and use Excedrin Migraine, even if its not migraine it should work. It contains Acetaminophen, Aspirin and Caffine, it works for me and I was told to take this by my two nurse friends.

I think that it depends on the type of headache. I personally get tension headaches which start in the back of your head and at the base of your neck. Then they move forward around your head and also down your back. If you have his kind of headache, I would recommend caffeine. Coffee, soda, chocolate, or a pain reliever that has caffeine in it. Also, when I get headaches, I massage the fleshy part of my hand that is between my thumb and pointer finger. Massaging your head, neck and shoulders also can help. Hope you feel better.

It depends on what's causing the headache.
If it's sinus, sometimes the only thing that helps me is a heating pad on my face.
Excedrin Migraine sometimes helps me when nothing else will.
Sometimes a cup of coffee (or a cola) will help if it's caffeine withdrawal related and sometimes MSG can trigger headaches.
Extreme temperature changes in spring and fall or big pressure changes in a weather front can have my head aching for a few days.
Ear infections, and dental/jaw problems can be involved.
I wouldn't rule out a migraine unless a doctor told you it wasn't one.

Caffeine is wonderful for a headache. Unless of course you drink tons of coffee and are crashing off of it.
One of the reasons Excedrin works so well is because it has caffeine.
My son has gotten migraines since he was very little and the doctor actually told me to give him a bit of very strong coffee. It does something to the dilation of the blood vessels in your head. Strangely, the caffeine didn't amp him up at all, it took the pain away and he slept.
You can also try a cold wash rag on the back of your neck.
Try to discern what causes your headaches. There are many food triggers.

Best wishes.

I get terrible migraines, which I take some crazy pain killers for. Fortunately, I haven't had one in about two years, since I was pregnant with my youngest (now 15 months.) However, I've been getting some regular headaches, and I take 800 mg ibuprofen which seems to help some. It's a lot more than they "tell" you to take, but within the range of okay.

Also, when I got migraines, sometimes I'd have a craving for a prune, and that would make the headache subside. Buy some SunSweet Ones (the individually wrapped ones) and try one. :) I don't know why it works sometimes, but I've found that it does.

Acupuncture! My husband is an acupuncturist at www.SassackAcupuncture.com. If you see someone, make sure they are board certified by NCCAOM - chiropractors and MDs can get certified to do acupuncture with far, far less experience and training and it isn't nearly as effective as those certified by NCCAOM.

Sometimes you can rub and massage in the tender spot between the thumb and forefinger. I probably get the best results when I take Advil cold and sinus.

I get a lot of headaches that are not migraines. I feel your pain! Ibuprofen has always worked well for me. It works on pain in a different manor than Tylenol, so for me it is more effective for my headaches. I personal favorite is Advil Liquid Gels... well I usually get the knock off version, but they work just as well and just as fast. Hope you get some relief soon!

excedrin. Also for me I get overheated easily, and drinking a TON of gatorade, eating salt and vinegar chips and laying down in an ac'd room. Also chiro adjustments sometimes help. I get headaches too. Grr!!

Headaches are usually caused by the inflamation of the arteries leading to your head, at least that is what a doctor once told me. Ibruprofen works the best for reducing inflamation. When I get a really bad headache I take 3 200mg (for a total of 600mg) ibruprofen and drink a large glass of water. Lay down on the couch for 20 minutes - half hour and it will be gone, at least for me it is. Happens to me about 2-4 times a year. Tylenol never helps me, unless it is for a fever.

I get headaches a lot (from BC pill mostly) and usually they turn into migraines. But one thing I like to use at the start of a headache is peppermint oil. I just put some directly on my head where it hurts and it provides a cooling affect as well has aromatherapy. Sometimes that's enough. But even if it's not, it provides some relief and less medication.

Tylenol does nothing for me either. Ibuprofen use to work pretty well. Sometimes Excedrin works as well, but I find if I don't take it with food, I get sick to my stomach.

I get really bad headaches too and neither Tylenol nor Ibuprofen help. I tried Excedrin Migraine but am very sensitive to caffeine and it made me very jittery and if I took it in the afternoon couldn't sleep at night. The only thing that works for me is Aleve. I do get migraines and sometimes Aleve even works for that, but most of the time I take Imitrex for those which are prescription.

If it is a sinus headache then you need to take sinus meds. Excedrin Migraine is great but be careful with it-even with tylenol you need to be careful. I get a migraine from time to time and I have prescription meds for it but there have been times that I took the meds for a migraine and it doesn't even touch it. Then I will take a sinus med and low and behold the headache goes away....maybe neither is related but funny how that works out for me. I have taken a liking to aleve here lately-seems to work great and on top of that it last for 12 hours ;())
