Bible Study for Children

I've been doing a bible study called "Calm my anxious heart" with my sisters, and I'm loving it. Each chapter addresses certain issues pairing them up with related verses from the bible. I'm really enjoying getting to know my bible better. I was wondering if anything like this existed for children. My older children have bibles, but we're challenged just to read through them. I would love something to help them get to know their bible better. I'm hoping to buy everything for Christmas and begin our new year with a new habit of bible study together. Thanks for any suggestions.

Go to www.memoriapress.com they have a wonderful Bible study program that we use. It gives you the verses to read, then it goes through and asks you different questions related to the passages you just read. It has important facts and people and vocabulary and memory verses too. It has a wonderful way of memorizing the books of the Bible too. When you go to their website it is: "Christian Studies" that you want to click on. Their program starts with Genesis and works your way through the Bible. We use this for homeschooling. However, if you are doing it just for Bible study, and not homeschool...... you could order just the teachers book if you want. This would give you the questions and answers, then you could orally do this with your children. We have the workbooks for each kid and we do the questions all orally, but then they write down the answers in their books too. They also have a childrens Bible that they offer for sale, to go along with the Bible study. (You can either buy it, or not, however, in the the workbook, they do have activities that deal with the pictures that are in their childrens Bible, and they even tell you the exact page numbers. Without their Bible, you would just skip these activities) This Bible study is designed for elementary school kids.

I have been looking for the EXACT same thing! I hope you get some good responses :) I have a lot of children's devotionals that we do at the dinner table, but I really want to find a children's bible study. I did find really good bibles for my two older girls (10 & 8) on christianbooks.com that are by Faithgirlz. I'll keep checking your request and see if anyone has a good suggestion :)

Hi C.
I'm a mom of 4 ages 12-17 and when they were young we used the Precept bible study books called "discover 4 yourself, inductive bible studies for kids". I bought them at CBD.com (christian book distributor)I just typed in discover 4 yourself in their search engine. The one called "God what is your name?" is a really great study on the names of God. There is an adult study title "Lord I want to know you" that covers the same material. I've taken dozens of women and our kids through this one. Best wishes!

Yes, although I'm not sure if it's been reprinted or not because the copy I have is fairly old. But it's called "The Children's Bible" by Golden Press. It takes the old and new testament stories and modifies them for kids, including full color illustrations! It's a much easier read for kids, teaching correct principles but making the language easier to understand for kids. And it never hurts to have great pictures on every page to keep them engaged too! ;) Good luck!

Hi! I am a Christian mom of a 7 month old as well as a teacher. I have spent my teaching career in Christian schools and have taught preschool, kindergarten and 1st grade. Each day with my kindergarten and 1st grade classes we would have a devotion after lunch. I tried several different books but always ended up going back to " Little Visits with God" published by the Concordia Publishing House. They have very relevant stories for children of all ages and Bible passages that go with them. At the end of the short story, they have questions and application, along with a prayer. I love them because the kids really paid attention, and everything was laid out right there for me. My older children would take turns looking up the passage and reading it out loud (it is also printed in the book.)They are very quick- perfect for bedtime.I know there are many different "Little Visits"- for toddlers, older kids, families... They are all good and can be used for many different ages. I hope this helps. I am sure you can find them on the Concordia website. You can also try Amazon.com They have been around for years, my family used them when I was growing up. God bless you and your family!

Hi C.,
A group at our church plays bible trivia. I'm not sure of the exact title of the game but I'm sure you can find one at a religious store. It's a lot of fun and helps a person learn to navagate through the bible as well remembering scripture.

Have your children been in AWANA? My son was able to learn an incredible amount of scripture and he was only 5-6. Many churches offer it, you don't have to be a member. Good luck and God Bless!

My daughter (just turned 11) and I have been reading the Bible since the beginning of the year. We found a reading plan (Google search or other Christian websites have numerous plans) to read in one year. (There are some that are geared for 2 years.) We read together (this gets me doing it, too) and so far we've read almost the entire Old Testament (finishing up this week). I read a chapter, then she reads one. I recommend the NIV or Contemporary English Version to start, and it's important that both your Bibles are the same version because it can get confusing. She's starting to understand the accomplishment and learning as we close out the Old Testament. christianbook.com has some great Bibles and study Bibles for kids of all ages. My husband reads just about every night his own reading plan with our 3 year old son, who, will not let daddy put him to bed now without reading their Bible together! I love it. The younger they are, the better they'll take to it. I will have to admit, it has been a struggle with my daughter, but she's getting better (it doesn't help that she doesn't like to read in the first place, but this helps her reading skills and I know the reading is getting done.) Also, if your kids are in a school where they do AR (Accelerated Reader) goals and testing, they can take tests on every book of the Bible except Psalms and Proverbs! This helped my daughter reach her goal for the very first time! Gotta love how God works! Good Luck!

At the gospel stores there is a good selection of bibles that are written in more of a modern english story form. They are great for kids as they learn the stories and get the basic premis of the lessons and values of the verses!

Our 2 and 3 year old attend AWANA. I saw that one other person mentioned this. For the 2 year old, it's just like cheap daycare. They do learn a tiny smidgen about God, but it's mostly just fun. For our 3 year old, though, she is learning a TON! It's amazing, that at only 3 years old, what she can remember and absorb!
For us (in Tucson), there are several AWANAs through different churches. We do the one at El Camino Baptist on Sunday night from 4pm-6pm. But different churches do different days/times. I'm not sure where you are from, but if you are in the Phoenix area, I'm sure you can find several to choose from.
It's a great program for the kids. And fairly inexpensive too. It was $100 for the entire year (September-May) for 2 kids. That includes a vest for the 3 year old and a very cute t-shirt for our 2 year old.
During the 2 hours, they learn a Bible verse, listen to a story about it (usually a puppet show), eat snack, make a craft and I think that is it.
It is so great for the kids to learn the Bible (a huge task for any parent to take on themselves) and it gives us a 2 hour break! :) They do have "homework." They have to memorize a verse and the parents have to read a story and do a little activity and sign off that the child remembered the verse.
Good luck. It makes me so happy to see other Christian moms on here!
