I use the "as seen on tv" microtrimmer. Then you just shave it and it does not grow back darker or thicker. $10 at cvs or walmart. I do have to buy a new one every year or so for blade dullness. Tweeezing stubborn ones 1st is my method.

If you are in a major city, there is a strong chance that you might be able to have threading done. This is basically a technique that Middle Eastern and Southeast Asian women have used for centuries where they take some string and twist along your face to pull out the unwanted hairs. You can do your upper lip and brows done this way. No chemicals. I pay about $11 for both my brows and my lips to be done. I will NEVER pay for waxing again, nor will I use harsh depilatories on my skin.

**Added -- I did a quick Google search for "Pittsburgh threading" and came up with some results. Here's one:

**The more often you have threading done, the less painful it seems. My first few times I cringed a lot, but now it barely phases me at all.

home wax strips, hurts at first, pain is gone in seconds, and subsequent applications hurt much less. Hair grows in finer. Laser works on dark hair, but in my case i have blonde peach fuzz, laser wont do anything, blonde settings or not.

LASER HAIR REMOVAL!!! You have a problem that needs to go away permanently. You don't want to be nairing (or whatever) your lip once a month for the rest of your life, do you? Definately do laser hair removal. Call around many places and compare prices. Lots of place offer monthly specials (ask when they will have an upper lip special). It shouldn't cost too much money b/c the upper lip area is a very small area. Good luck!

What kind of birth control are you using? Birthcontrol pills (or other methods) that involve artificial hormones can darken the hair on your upper lip. You might want to consider a different method (like, go from pills to ring, etc.) and see if over a few months (it takes time for your body to adjust) your lip hairs lighten and become less thick.

I've done lazer; lip hair grows back--you can't permanently remove it. I've waxed (careful, don't do it at home or you might pull the skin off too). In the end, I changed birth control and bought those little beauty razors (for facial hair). Just a little razor swipe in the morning gets rid of it--and no, it doesn't grow back thicker.

I just tweeze. I have tried other things and found that l like that the best. Mostly because when you wax or use nair you have to wait until the hair is in and starting to show in order to do it again. I don't like walking around thinking people might be able to see some hairs. But with tweezing you just have to do a little everyday. So before putting on makeup I just pluck any hairs I see coming in. It takes like a couple min. if that and then you never have a bunch of hair all over.

They make a cream that is for the face, I buy it at Raley's (but I am sure that you could find it most places), and it has a cucumber & aloe cream you put on after to soothe the skin. I like it. I can't remember the name of it right now though - but I would look for something like that instead of Nair.

I would say to use the nair meant for facial hair. If it is not working then get it waxed or threaded. Threading is good for the eyebrows also. I would do that. If you have enough money then think about doing electrolysis if you want it to be permanent. Good luck.

Go get it waxed.. or consider having it removed with Laser removal.. That feels like rubber bands being popped on your lip and it can take quite a few visits, but it is supposed to be permanent.. FYI, Laser does not work as well on grey hairs..

I get both my upper lip and eyebrows threaded. It's pretty painful the first time, but after that, I've hardly noticed. The ladies who do mine are fantastic, fast, and inexpensive. There's no skin irritation either because they're just pulling the hairs.

I use nair for the face now and then if I let it get long enough, other than that I tweeze, or use one of those little batter operated shaver to shave it off.

I've had mine threaded. It is incredibly painful but lasts several weeks. I have sensitive skin so waxing and hair removal products are out for me. You can usually find a threader at the mall or call around to different salons. I get my eyebrows done all the time. It's super fast.
