Our kids are finally getting old enough to really enjoy Halloween. I would like to take them outside of our neighborhood for the first time this year but Portland is so big, I have no idea where the best/safest areas are.
Does anyone have some favorite areas you can share with us?!

What can I do next?

My suggestion is to just do your own block with your age children. Is there a reason why you want to go to another neighborhood? Is your neighborhood unsafe?
We like seeing the familiar children in the neighborhood coming to the door.
My children went to other neighborhoods when they were older with friends, looking for bigger treats and haunted houses.

I love to take my kids to one of the malls. It is safe, dry, warm, and usually starts early, so you are done earlier. Check on their websites for more info.

If your looking for Candy factor... I know that up in skyline.. those big houses.. they give out the big candy bars or big big handfuls of candy... you could even try street of dreams... but if your looking for scare factor.. I don't know of a neighborhood... but do know that they have something for all ages at the washington county fair grounds that is going on RIGHT NOW!!! :) Good luck!!! I can't wait until my little one is a bit bigger to do such fun things!!!

There are a couple a streets by Reed College that really do it up for Halloween. I hear that they have given out the big candy bars too.

My brother was just telling me yesterday that there is a neighborhood by Univerity of Portland that really goes all out for Halloween. Not sure exactly where it is, but maybe that will put you close enough to find it.

I was reading your "a little about me" and was like "this sounds like N." :)
I hope you guys found a good neighborhood and had fun! We go to SE by Powell where hubby's aunts live, so you might want to try it next year! It's so nice and quiet and safe, plus they always give kids good candy or organic stuff like apples, raisins, granola bars...
