Hi moms!
We have been in the britax roundabout and it is about time to move up. My toddler is about 35 pounds and it is time for a change. What is the safest next step up??

Thanks!!

What can I do next?

We went with the Sunshine Kids Radian 80 and are very pleased with it. It goes up to 80 pounds and is only 17 inches wide, so it fits well with other people in the back seat. It has a steel frame and folds flat. It has very good crash ratings.

We went to the Sunshine kids booster. It is good up to 75 lbs and is narrower than most other boosters. We too had the Britax roundabout.

If you are a Britax fan as I am I would get the Britax Regent it is the last car seat you weill ever need and you will not need a booster seat because it is a 5 point harness you use until 80 pounds. My 5.5 year old son is 49 pounds and 46 inches tall and he LOVES his Regent. We got in NEW IN BOX on Ebay for about 200 WITH SHIPPING... so I would check Ebay for a great deal.

I use the Britax Marathons for my 3.5 year old and 2 year old.

If you like the Britaxes, then I would go for either a Regent or a Frontier.

Do know that no car seats are considered safer than another, all the car seats available for purchase in the US had to meet the same federal safety standards before being allowed to be sold to consumers.

If you have any questions with anything car seat related or would like information on getting your son's car seat checked, feel free to ask! (I am a child passenger safety technician - basically a car seat tech!)

The absolute safest seat out there is made by Recaro. They make the seats used by professional race car drivers and in some military airframes. They're not cheap, but occasionally you can find them on sale. We just got a Recaro Signo convertible seat (5 to 65 or 75 lbs) from albeebaby.com for $215 shipped. They have floor models at Lonestar Baby in North Richland Hills if you want to touch before you buy. I'd also recommend checking into reviews of toddler seats through Consumer Reports. Britax, BTW, was our number two choice manufacturer.

I was recently researching new carseats for our daughter and after looking at some car safety message boards found that this one was very highly rated.

Prices vary by store, but I found that Walmart had it for about $10-$!5 less than other places.

Stick with Britax. We have the Boulevard, which is great. We chose it when our son was young and still needed a convertible from rear to front facing (it goes up to 65lbs). We plan on getting another for our daughter. You might also consider the Regent that goes up to 80lbs and is only a front facing seat.

I would go with another Britax. We recently purchased a Britax FRontier for my ds (our third BRitax). It is the newest Britax booster. I'm not sure of the minimum weight, but it seems like it was around 20lbs. You can get all the specs. on it on www.britaxusa.com (I think that is the address for the Britax wegsite.) It does have true side impact protection, cup holders and is a 5 pt. harness to 80lbs and belt positioning booster to 100 lbs. So, esentially, it would be the last car seat he would ever need. I did get ds's on ebay for 250.00 including shipping and even managed to get it in red, per his request. They retail for 279.00 w/ free shipping on most online sites. I couldn't find it in the stores though. It is a little smaller than the REgent, which is what I was planning on getting before I saw the new FRontier.

Good luck on your serch.

We have the Britax Regent. It's good for for kids 22-80 lbs. We got this for our son when he turned 1 so we wouldn't have to keep changing seats for him.

I cant speak from experience on this one yet, but I am longing to buy two of these for my kids....the Graco nautilus. Check it out, it is super great looking!! I first saw them on Jon and Kate plus 8, and searched the internet to find them, and I am having serious car seat envy. Ours are older, but I think I still may fork over the money, and never have to buy another car seat for my 2 toddlers. I hope you find just what you need ~A.~
