One of my dogs is a senior citizen and she is showing some aversion to her food. She is being fed Wellness-Senior Formula. Its not an appedtite issue because she steals my kids food and licks the floor clean. Her activity level is consistent. Also, she just had her annual vet checkup and we did some blood work so we will see if anything is wrong medically. But in the meantime, I wanted to know what dog food do you feed your dog that is picky about dog food.

Thanks dog parents. I will research thes options cause she has really turned up her nose. Her blood results came back and she's fine. She even let the other dogs eat her food while she tried desperately to steal my son's PB&J sandwich from the counter.

ETA - dog seems to like it too.
I try to feed my dogs IAMS for the most part, Beneful when I'm short the $, but man, when I put out the Iams, I have to guard the bowls at breakfast and dinner - otherwise the cats will push the dogs away and try to eat the Iams. And my dogs are not small, they're both labs.

Iams has made a complete difference in their coats and b.m's.
I've never known a dog to turn its nose up at origen regional red (smells like a tender, juicy, steak when you open the bag). However, that is way up there in price/quality. Many dogs do well on and enjoy the flavor of taste of the wild.
Well, I haven't tasted any, but my dogs seem to like the Iams that I buy for them :)
We have a dog with a very sensitive stomach, which causes her to be very picky. We have found that Organix and Blue Buffalo are her favorites. She is currently on Blue Buffalo, because she seems to love that the most.
Nutro, my dogs seem to LOVE the taste.
Our dog likes Organix Chicken flavor.
Our dogs like Hills's Science for Senior in small bites. I mix it with a bit of chicken or beef broth daily.
we have always fed Wellness CORE(the grain free) and are switching to another grain free, Nature's Domain, it's rated the same, but is about half the price of Wellness CORE at Costco - my dogs LOVE it!
Nutro Lamb and Rice.
We started giving Nutro to our senior dog, we noticed a positive difference in her coat and energy level. Nutro was all she would eat, she just completely stopped eating table food, which was good. It also comes in a chicken flavor which our dog liked as well.

Assuming her teeth were fine she might be holding out for the good stuff. A little wet food added might spark her interest. Otherwise try a couple of small bags to see if there is a flavor she likes. Some speciality pet stores give samples. For a treat/food I like the natural balance rolls that are inbetween dry and wet. Lots of great foods out there, so no specific brand to recommend. I feed natural balance and wellness and have used a few others between cats and a dog, but none of mine are picky.

My dachshund loves Blue Buffalo. She gobbles it right up! It is all natural with no artificial colors or flavors. I recommend it!
One of my dogs is a finicky eater -- and had some weird allergy-like issues a while back. SHe does very, very well on Nature's Variety Instinct. She's our princess, though, and gets bored after a while with the same flavor. We keep the brand the same but change up the flavors. Seems to work.
By the way, we had a senior black lab (love of my life, I swear) who passed away almost a year ago. For his last couple of years he needed a little something extra in his food -- just to get him interested. We found a small tablespoon or two of wet food was just the ticket. Once he started eating, he'd snarf down his whole meal. Every now and again, we'd change it up and add a raw egg or maybe some vegetable oil or some chicken broth. Again -- just a little taste and then he'd just eat normally.
Dogs are probably like people. The older you get the less your taste buds work for you, thus you add salt and other seasonings to make it appealing.
With a senior dog, it might be good to start cooking her food via stove top to make her happy and healthy. Ask the vet what things are good to cook at home... most likely liver and such, but it's worth it, right?
Our dog is older and finicky as well. We have to switch it up once in in a while but he likes Ziwi Peak and Great Life. Pricey but both high quality - no fillers or harmful ingredients like many other brands. I've also heard that Wellness Super5Mix is good. He also seems to like it better if we add a little warm water which also helps keep him hydrated, the vet suggested this and it's worked.
