Our 6 week old loves the Bjorn and with a 3 yr old and a 22 month old running around at home, I need to be able to carry the baby around and have my hands free. I have tried the Nolo but could never get the baby situated in a way that made him happy. Any experience with slings that you LOVE LOVE LOVE and can also breastfeed in??

Thanks!

What can I do next?

I found the ring sling to be very helpful for nursing an infant while chasing an active toddler. You can find them at Pea Pods in St. Paul (they can help you figure it out) or order one online like I did. Mine came with an instructional DVD. When my daughter was a little older, I LOVED my Mei Tei. It was by far my favorite baby carrier. I don't know how it would work for nursing a newborn, but I did nurse my older baby in it just fine. I agree with the advice to get away from the Bjorn (just cause it is popular doesn't mean it is best) and look into the vast world of babywearing out there. A moby wrap is also awesome, btw. Good luck!

We have an ERGO baby carrier (with the infant insert). We LOVE it.

Depending on how big your baby is though, you may not need the infant insert anymore. Our son outgrew it by about 6 weeks but he was a BIG baby. 9# 2oz when he was born.

The infant insert cradles your baby instead of straddling them to you. Your baby is touching YOU when you wear them, not a bunch of fabric. I know they say you can nurse while using the ERGO but I don't really remember trying that. I always held him when we nursed...... You can find it online. It's like ergo.com or something like that. I'm sure you can google it. They are spendy but our 2 year old still goes in it from time to time.......

We used it a TON when he was a baby. He was born in June so I used it everywhere we went. We always took him out of his carseat and "carried" him either in our arms or in the carrier.

YAY for babywearing! I have to be honest though and say that IMO you should stop using the Bjorn immediately. I cringe every time I see someone wearing one. They are probably the worst baby carrier out there for several reasons. #1. The stress of carrying the baby is put on your shoulders alone, which is not good for your back. #2. The baby is essentially "hanging" by their crotch. This puts a ton of strain on their hips and spines. Babies should be in carriers in a sitting positions, with their weight on their sitbones (legs bent at 90 degrees). #3. The lifespan of the carriers (in terms of how heavy a baby you can put in them) is extremely limited.

I'm not familiar with the Nojo, but it looks like a pouch. The reason your son probably doesn't like it is because he's gotten used to being vertical when being worn. You can just keep at it and see if he adjusts...which he may do. 6 weeks may be a bit young for vertical nursing, but when he does have the ability to nurse upright, I would suggest any kind of Mai Tei or Podeagi. These are soft carriers that baby can be vertical in front of you and nurse in that position. Here is a link to a really good site for baby carrier information and reviews. You need to register, but it's free. http://thebabywearer.com/

Good Luck!

Are you anywhere near Madison? Happy Bambino has a FREE babywearing class where you can see and try on pretty much every kind of carrier out there.

I used a ring sling and loved it. It's really easy to nurse in from birth on up. Mine is made by Ella Roo.

A ring sling is a great option since it's adjustable. You can find great used ones on thebabywearer, like someone else suggested. Other great ones are sleeping baby, sakura bloom and comfy joey. I've tried all 3 and they're all equally comfortable in a variety of price points.

I do have to disagree about the bjorn being bad for your baby, so don't feel badly about using it! If you google it, you'll find one or two studies that suggest the bjorn MAY be bad for hip/spine development, not prove it. It's something that's been spread online like wildfire, without a lot of proof! One of the biggest proponents of this is a company that sells a different type of carrier - of course they want you to buy theirs! Now, if we're talking comfort for you, that's another story! ;)

I loved, loved, loved the fleece Kangaroo Korner sling/pouches. My daughter was so happy in this. I used it all the time from about six weeks until 5 months (June) when the weather got warmer and the fleece got too hot. I switched to a cotton one and like this one as well. You can try them at PeaPods in St. Paul (where are you?) OR, they are a local company and have occasional open houses where you can try on any. I really recommend them. Everyone that has tried it has been happy. Good luck!
