What is the best shopping cart cover out there? I've seen several different ones and am not sure which one I should get. I have an almost 5 month old who is working on sitting up. I'd like to be able to plop him in the shopping cart seat when I shop. I want one that is easy to put in... especially one handed! I'd love to hear any reviews!

I use the Eddie Bauer cart cover and I love it. It covers the entire front part of the cart. My mom bought me this from Target.

Cleanshopper.com. It has the best ones out there. I am a germ-phobe and they have the ones that cover the entire front section of the cart, as well as, disposable ones. Its a really good website for other "cleanliness" items too!!

Hi K.,
I bought one from wal-mart and the reason i dont like it is because it only covers the front handle and the back. It leaves the sides open for their little mouths to get a taste....ewwwww..... So i always had germ-x for the sides. So if i were you i would get one that covers the whole cart. I am not sure what they are called but i am sure it would be worth the money. Good luck to you :0)

I like the "floppy seat" cover. I got one at Babys r us last year for about $30. It was pricey, but worth it. There are fabric links where you can attach toys and it was very comfy, especially since my daughter was so tiny (there was a lot of padding.) I sold my old one to "once upon a child" so you may want to check with that type of resale store to see if you can get a good deal.

I like the Eddie Bauer one. You can get it from Target, I'm not sure where else. It coveres the sides unlike the infantino one and has a little pocket you can throw a diaper and wipes in to so you don't have to take a diaper bag in with you. Or use it for coupons like I do! I think it's around $15.

I've had a buggybag for 6 years since my oldest was born. All 3 kids have used it - youngest still is. I love it! The main thing you want in a cover is to make sure it actually covers the seat area! Many I see in stores only cover the front and back -- useless! Anyways.... the buggybag has a an extra part the hangs down the back of the seat with zippered pockets. I stash snacks, pacifiers, small toys, shopping list, coupons, wallet, etc in there. When folded up, it becomes a bag complete with zipper, although I never zip mine. I just use the carrying handles to carry into store, set it into the cart, set it up one handed (baby is in other arm) and put baby/toddler in. Very easy to put in one handed and take out one handed! Oh.. it also comes with a pillow so I was able to put my kids in it before they were sitting up. The cover is cushioned and the pillow helped prop them up in the cart. And it has several fabric loops to attach toys/pacifiers to.

Hi K.,

Its been a while since my son is now 4, I don't remember the brand, but when he was a baby a got one that I liked because it covered the whole seating area of the cart and not just the handle part that you push, that's important because they touch all over and not just the front of the cart. This cover also became its own bag.
Good luck

I have the floppy seat too and LOVE LOVE it!! I only found it around here at Babies R Us but got mine on Ebay (new in packaging) for ALOT less even with shipping. Check there first. My son is 3 and still uses it every time he's in a shopping cart or high chair and we've had it since he was almost 6 months old. It's also maching washable and comes "good as new".

It just depends if you want convenience or not. We started out with one from Eddie Bauer which I liked b/c it could be rolled up into its own little baggie. It was so compact that I could stick it in my diaper bag. Now we are using the Buggy Bagg and we both (my son and I) love it. We found it at a thrift store for $5! But I would definitely pay full price for it. You can check it out at www.buggybagg.com. It is so comfi for my son and when we go on an extended shopping trip, I xfr his most essential items to it. It has so many pockets and folds up into its own diaper bag. Pretty handy! I love it!

Floppy seat. This one is great and it covers the whole shopping cart as well as a highchair in a restraunt. It is a little more expensive but well worth it. I got ours at a children's consignment shop for about half the price. Good Luck!!

Personally, I never worried about cart covers and such. I figure exposure to all types of germs helps build their immune systems. Also, if you are nursing, he is still getting antibodies from you. I did however, sometimes wipe down the cart a little with a wipe, especially for my daughter who used to put her mouth on the cart handle.

That said, you could probably get a cover from a thrift store or Craigslist. It's not the type of thing that would wear out.

Hi, K.!

I ordered mine from www.chubbyseats.com, and I absolutely LOVE it! I have 2 big boys that outgrew the infant carrier quick, but were unable to sit up in a shopping cart. This saved me! It is sooooo "chubby" and quilted and has a pillow and seatbelts and toy holders....it's great! You can even lay your baby lengthwise in there to nap while you shop! Check out the page that says "Happy chubby seat babies" and there are a ton of pictures of happy babies! That's what sold me! And, you get to custom choose your fabrics.
Good luck!

Hi K.,
One of my best friends makes/sells them. Her website is www.cartalongbaby.com, and she lives in the Columbus area. She made a pattern based on one she received as a gift, but then added what a parent would want to make it even better. They are very easy to use, and she has sooo many designs to choose from. They cover the entire seat, and they are also fluffy enough that you can use them even with a baby that can't quite sit up on his/her own yet. They are great! Check them out! =)

K.,
I also have a Buggybag and I love it. My aunt bought it for me. Initially, I thought it was overkill to cover a cart, but I saw a news story on germs and so I thought that I probably should use it. If it saves me co-pays at the dr. for her and I it will be worth the trouble. It was much easier to use than I thought and it has pockets to put wipes, toys and extra pacifier. My daughter is 18th months old so we have been using it for over a year. There have been two times that she has had huge runny poopy diapers in the buggy bag. I was never more thankful for that thing than at those times! But it also got me thinking, if all the kids who sit in the carts have only one leaky, or runny poopy diapers a year, can you imagine the stuff in those carts! That is not even considering all the sickness and other stuff on them. You know the only time carts get washed is when they get rained on! Our kids are exposed to may germs everyday to help build their immunity, but I think covering the shopping cart is a smart thing to do. The Buggybag was worth every penny, and I often thank my aunt for buying it. Buggybag also has a cover that goes in restaurant high chairs, and I bought one and love it too. I hope you find one you like! R.'

Hi K.! I'm so excited to hear that you are in the market for a cart cover! They're wonderful! I have an 11 month old daughter, and we use one everytime we get in the cart or in a high chair at a restaurant. Can I tell you... she's never been sick! Of course, I put her in the church nursery for the first time, and she ended up with a horrible cold, but that's another story! I received mine as a gift, but I've also seen them at Babies R Us. They are so incredibly worth the time and effort to put it on! I would make sure you get one that covers the entire seating area on all sides. I've seen some that people have, and they only cover the seat and the "handle bar", which leaves the sides open for him to put his hands on and pick up germs. Good luck, and believe me, you're making a great investment!

We have the Floppy Seat Cover and it works GREAT! It covers all surface areas on the front, sides, and back of seat, which is great for when they are still mouthing and touching every imaginable surface. While it is a lot of material, it does the trick and I just throw it in the trunk for easy access. It does convert into it's own bag for storage and space saving, but we use it so much, it doesn't seem worth the effort to close it up. We've been very happy with it.

We have one from CleanShopper.com and we love it. It covers the entire seat and all sides. It has pockets on the inside for toys. And it has two straps on the top where you can clip on toys (with linkadoos, etc.) so the baby can't throw them on the floor. It comes with a bag and it machine washable. It also has a seat belt. The other thing I love is that it seems so comfortable. The material is pretty thick and it also protects her from the cold metal of the cart (particularly a concern when she wears shorts in the summer and the cart has been in an air-conditioned building all day or in the winter when the cart has been outside). I don't consider myself a germaphobe, but grocery store carts can get very dirty. Produce and meat can carry some very dangerous bacteria. I think cart covers are a fantastic invention - just be sure to wash it regularly, otherwise it won't do much for germ protection. :)

All my best!
A.
