I would reiterate the suggestion to take a tour of the hospitals. Sacred Heart is a bigger hospital and known for its excellent care in a lot of areas, but I had always been told that Deaconess is the place to have a baby (partly because of their nursing staff, I think). I had my last baby (of four) there, and it was by far my best experience. Of course, that might also have to do with my midwife and doula (who I could refer you to, if you are interested). I didn't want to go to Valley because they don't have tubs to labor in there. Good luck!

I saw the other post regarding the doctor having privledges, which is what I was going to say. I delivered at Sacred Heart and it was a wonderful experience for my family in the large waiting areas, my husband and I as far as comforts of home and for our beautiful daughter's treatment and care. I couldn't believe how efficient and caring the staff were--I couldn't have asked for a better first delivery. I know Sacred Heart does tours every Sunday afternoon at 2pm if you wanted to check it out. For sure you will want to ask your doctor though--I had a friend who planned to deliver at SH and then about a month before her baby was born, she discovered that the doctor didn't deliver there, only at Deaconess and she never thought to ask. . .

A lot would depend on who your dr. is. Drs usually only have priviledges at one or two hospitals. If you live in the Valley you may choose to go to a valley dr. therefore most likely delivering at Valley Hospital. While it's smaller than Sacred Heart or Deaconess, it's close and I have also heard relaxing b/c it is not as busy. The other thing you can do is go tour the hospitals. Is the hospital more important to you or your dr. Whichever is then start with that.

Good luck.

Hi,

My husband and I moved to Spokane about 4 years ago from Seattle area. We love it here.

Myself and most of my friends delivered at Sacred Heart. Some doctors, like mine, only deliver there. They are known for their excellent neo-natal unit.

I had an excellent experience about 1 year ago. I loved the labor nurses. Can't say enough good things about it.

I would decide on your doctor first and see if they have a preference.

I recommend Sacred Heart without hesitation.
