I have a one month old and we are still using diapers that we received from my baby showers. I am not sure if I am doing something wrong or if it is just the diapers I am using. When we were in the hospital they used Swadlers and those were the first I used here at home and I didn't seem to have a problem. Now I am using a store brand that I received called Parents Choice - seems like every time he has a bowel movement it leaks through one side of the diaper - I have to change his clothes every time he goes poo. He's only about 9 or 10 lbs (will find out next week at the dr) and the diapers are for 8-14 lbs. However, when he goes poo it is with a lot of force - not sure if it makes a difference - he's fed breast milk from a bottle - he burps and w/in an hour or so he lets a big one go (sounds like a man) and here it comes out the side of the diaper! I put it on as snug as I can, so I don't think I am doing it wrong - any favorite/no fail diapers you know of?????? I appreciate the help!!!!!!!!!!!

What can I do next?

Hi M. - I totally understand, had the same thing happen with with my son....I tried lots of diapers...in my case, the Pampers swaddlers worked the best for us. I got tired of having to do laundry everyday because he was going through 4 to 5 outfits a day...forget it...I said it was worth the extra money for the Pampers Swaddlers if I didn't have to change his outfits so often everyday. The other thing I'll tell you, is I typically use Era for laundry and switched to Dreft for my son...but it never got the poop out of the outfits...so I started using Era for him too...it was fine and it took all the poop out of his outfits. He had no issues with it either. Good Luck.

Hands down pamper swaddlers and when he's grown out of those...pampers cruisers - not regular pampers and for sure not huggies....

I agree with Katari, Pampers swaddlers then cruisers, nothing else worked for us (and I did try)!

My daughter is 13 1/2 weeks now (and about 15 pounds)and I have tried a few brands, but Pampers Swaddlers are THE BEST! Target brand are the worst I have tried, totally not worth the savings as I did 10 times the laundry and they were really difficult to put on. I have used Huggies Gentle Care and those are super easy to put on and seem to work well. I will try Cruisers once we grow out of Swaddlers (which only come in sizes N through 2).
One thing I will say is that, on the bright side, you will eventually be changing less poopy diapers. My daughter is exclusively breast fed and used to poop after every feeding (every 2 hours...and they were also forceful!). Now she is down to 2 or 3 poops a day. So there is some relief in sight for you :)

Hi M.,

Congrats on making it through month 1, the hardest for a new mommy. I've always had good luck with Huggies, as have my friends, and you can buy them in bul with coupons at Costco. Perhaps I would keep him in swaddlers until he is at "stage 1" for huggies. As for the "blowouts" as they are fondly known as, sometimes it truly does not matter what you put them in, those accidents make their way out of any diaper. Perhaps keep the cheaper ones on him at night if you think that would help however. I always hated to waste diapers.
Take Care!

M.,
Pampers Swaddlers for size 1 and 2 diapers, then I switched to Huggies Baby-Shaped fit size 3. My son is still in these size 3 diapers and they're the only ones that will hold in all his pee!

I agree that blowouts will happen (esp during this stage) regardless of what diapers he is in. Within 2-3 months, it should start to clear up.

I used Luvs with my son when he was little, a nice compromise I think between the cheapos and the expensive brands, but once he got mobile, Pampers fit him alot better and didn't hang off his hips like the Luvs did.

Good luck!

Hello. We have tried others too, but Pampers are the best. The Swaddlers, are GREAT, when they are newborns.

Good Luck!

We've tried most of them...Pampers, Huggies, Luvs (blah), Especially for You (Babies R Us bradn - blah) and have found Huggies Supreme to be the best for our son.
